Fuzzy Navel – Conton Candy

Here’s an idea for making a spinning top you blow on using a milk carton.

First, cut the carton about 1.5 cm up from the bottom, then make slits at the four corners and open it up.

Next, rotating the carton in a consistent direction from each corner, cut along the edges of the bottom.

Leave about 1 cm uncut at the ends.

Bend the sections you just cut inward so they gather toward the center, and decorate with masking tape or stickers to finish.

If you blow straight down from above, it will spin around and around.

Magic hand

[Playable Craft] Easy Magic Hand (Robot Arm) Made from a Milk Carton [Upcycled Craft]
Magic hand

You can make a magic hand that stretches with a boing when you push it, and whose arm at the tip can grab things, using milk cartons.

First, cut off the top and bottom so the milk carton becomes a tube.

On the tubular carton, draw a line 2 cm from the edge and cut along it; prepare three of these pieces.

Tape the three pieces together with cellophane tape, then attach straws on both sides so they cross over each other.

Finally, attach one of the cut-off bendable sections to the tip as the gripping arm, and it’s done.

If you increase the number of tubular milk carton sections, you can make a longer magic hand!

pokkuri

Nostalgic toy: milk carton stilts
pokkuri

Here’s a recommended craft idea for elementary school students taking on a summer vacation independent project: “pokkuri” (traditional walking clogs) made by reusing milk cartons.

All you need are milk cartons and string.

The steps are simple: make cuts at the four corners of a milk carton down to 7 cm from the bottom, then pack in another milk carton that has been accordion-folded.

Fold the four sides inward, leave two sides standing, punch holes in them, and thread and tie the string to make handles.

That’s it—your friendly, kid-favorite traditional toy is complete.

It’s not only fun, but also a great eco-friendly recycling craft.

Paku-Paku Shark

Even making a kinetic piece is fun, and that excited “Will it really move?” feeling sparks your imagination, doesn’t it? This Chompy Shark is a quick craft you can play with, and you can make it using materials you already have at home.

Cut the bottom of a milk carton into an L-shape.

The piece you cut out will become the chomping mouth.

Poke holes and insert a bamboo skewer, place a wheel made from the bottom of a plastic bottle inside the carton, and assemble the mouth section—then when you move the milk carton back and forth, the mouth opens and closes.

Depending on how you decorate the milk carton, you could create all sorts of animals!

helicopter

[Wakuwaku-san’s Craft Workshop] Let’s make a helicopter out of a milk carton!
helicopter

This is a helicopter-themed craft where the propeller parts spin vigorously and delightfully.

The body makes use of a milk carton’s shape, and the propeller is made by layering long, thin strips cut from a milk carton.

Next, connect each part with a stick; the key is to wrap a thinly cut strip of milk carton around the stick that inserts into the body so the stick can move freely.

Finally, fix kite string to the end of the stick protruding from the body—pulling this string makes the propeller spin.
