[For Seniors] Recommended Christmas Crafts! Simple Handmade Project Ideas (21–30)

Three-dimensional tree mobile

How to Make a 3D Christmas Tree Mobile — It spins round and round when you hang it!
Three-dimensional tree mobile

This is a three-dimensional hanging decoration inspired by the essential Christmas tree.

Prepare three pieces of paper cut into tree and star shapes, and fold each one in half.

Then glue them together at the center, punch holes at the top and bottom, and thread a string through.

You’ll have a Christmas tree with wings spreading in six directions.

A charming feature is how the spread wings catch the faint breeze in the room and spin around.

Adding small embellishments like beads can make it more festive and fun, but if it’s too heavy it won’t spin well, so it’s important to consider the balance.

Acorn Totoro Santa

Totoro Santa Claus ~ Acorn DIY: Let's make a 'Totoro Santa' with acorns!
Acorn Totoro Santa

Perfect as a gift, too! Let’s make a tiny Totoro Santa.

First, use an acorn as Totoro’s body and draw the face and belly patterns with a pen.

Then pop on a Santa hat made from felt, and your Totoro is complete.

Arrange it in a container of your choice with pinecones, small cut pieces of green wreath, and cotton for decoration.

If you’re using acorns you picked up, be sure to wash them and boil them to disinfect and prevent insects.

If you attach a key chain to the acorn, it could work as a strap/keychain as well.

Swaying Snowman Wreath

[Christmas Craft] Easy with a paper plate! A cute Christmas wreath with a wobbly, rocking snowman
Swaying Snowman Wreath

Let’s make a wreath you can enjoy displaying not only at Christmas but throughout the winter.

The main motif is a snowman, so the key is to keep the edges rounded and make everything as circular as possible! You’ll need a paper plate, colored construction paper, masking tape, jute twine, fishing line (monofilament), paints, oil-based colored pens, a snowflake-shaped craft punch, double-sided tape, a utility knife, and scissors.

Instead of finishing it in a single day, aim to complete it over two to three days—you’ll be able to take your time and focus on the details.

Give it a try!

Snowman made with rings

Snowman Made from Rings: Christmas Ornament [Sakura-gaoka Sanatorium]
Snowman made with rings

A classic for birthday decorations! This is a snowman craft made with paper chains.

Make a loop by gluing a strip of construction paper into a ring, thread another strip through it, then glue it into another ring to create a chain.

Use colored paper for the top ring, as it will be the bucket hat.

The second ring is the face, and the ones below form the body—decorate them with stickers and ribbons.

Attach arms made from brown construction paper and a hanging ribbon to the head, and it’s complete.

Hang it on the wall or ceiling to bring a wintry vibe.

You can use this idea to make Santa Claus, too.

Christmas Decorations with Paper Ring Garlands

[Ring Garland Craft Idea] Christmas Decorations with Ring Garlands (December Wall Decorations) (Activities for Seniors, Day Service, Occupational Therapy, Childcare, Origami, DIY)
Christmas Decorations with Paper Ring Garlands

This is about making a chain garland by turning long, thin strips of paper into loops and linking them together, giving it a Christmas feel.

Imagine connecting large loops with thin loops, arranging it so that only one side of each large loop is visible.

The motifs to create include Santa Claus, reindeer, and snowmen.

Each motif is completed in two segments—one for the face and one for the body—and then connected together.

Since you’ll make several long garlands, it’s recommended to vary the positions of the motifs on each one to achieve a more luxurious look.

Crafting with tissue paper doesn’t require much strength, so it might be easy for older adults to make as well.

Crumple the tissue paper in your hand and stick it onto a wreath made from a paper plate with the center cut out.

It’s also recommended to make gifts, canes, or candles out of construction paper.

You can enjoy decorating by placing the ornaments wherever you like.

Of course, green tissue paper works nicely, but using red or white can create a chic-looking wreath.

Take it home and display it to bring the Christmas spirit into your own room.

Tree with stamps

Let’s use a crumpled piece of paper as a stamp to create a tree.

First, on a black construction paper base, glue on a flowerpot and a tree trunk made from brown-toned construction paper.

On top of that, place a stencil with the inside cut out in the shape of a tree, and stamp with the paint-covered paper.

Use greens with different depths of color and some white paint.

Once you finish stamping, remove the stencil and attach a star made of construction paper to the top of the tree.

Decorate the tree with Christmas stickers as ornaments, and you’re done.

Feel free to embellish any open areas on the base as you like.
