Fado masterpieces. Recommended popular songs.
Fado, the folk music of Portugal.
I’ve heard that in Portuguese, fado means “fate” or “destiny.”
The nostalgic plucking of the gut-string guitar contrasted with the heartrending, sobbing melodies of the vocals is dramatic.
Truly, the music of “fate”!

O Meu PedroSILVANA PERES

Silvana Perez, from Lisbon, Portugal, encountered fado at the age of 14 and, drawing on the rich expressiveness she cultivated through dance and equestrian arts, set out on a musical path.
Her talent drew early attention: in 2017, her debut album “Fado no Pé” was selected by Blitz Magazine as one of the year’s Top 10 World Music albums.
The song introduced here is included on her album “Água Nova,” released in April 2022.
While retaining fado’s poignant emotion, it blends the warmth of folk-song sensibilities with a buoyant rhythm.
Silvana’s deep, warm voice weaves a beautiful melody where wistfulness and rays of hope intersect.
This work is recommended for those who want to feel as if they’re strolling through the streets of Lisbon, or for anyone seeking music that gently stays close to the heart.
Carta do Fundo do MarTeresa Lopes Alves

In this video as well, the artist and memories from their childhood appear repeatedly.
Rather than so-called traditional fado, it’s a good fado with a slightly brighter, pop-like feel.
It’s a work that lets you enjoy the period scenery of Portugal while listening to the song.
MorenaRodrigo Costa Félix

This is a collaboration video featuring male singer Rodrigo Costa Félix and Katia Guerreiro.
It’s striking to see them singing joyfully with a classic band lineup in a location reminiscent of an old Portuguese palace.
MourariaAlfredo Marceneiro

When it comes to classic fado, no one is more renowned than Alfredo Marceneiro.
The title “Mouraria” refers to the name of a real historic neighborhood in central Lisbon.
It is also famous as a place where the culture in which fado was born still lingers to this day.
LiraAntónio Correia de Oliveira

This is another classic fado number—a very heartwarming and pleasant-to-listen-to masterpiece by António Coelho Oliveira.
In the video, you can also see photos of António himself from his younger days.
