With that in mind, I chose Hideki Kaji’s “Amai Koibito,” an artist who could be considered emblematic of Shibuya-kei.
Its chic, café- and city-evoking vibe and poppy groove may well epitomize the music scene of the 1990s.
Mercury feat. Onomatopoeia Ministertofubeats
This track features a stylish blend of a floating, airy beat and a steady, understated flow.
It’s a collaboration between trackmaker tofubeats and office worker-rapper Onomatopoe Daijin, released in 2012.
The relaxed, just-right sound arrangement pairs perfectly with the lyrics’ curious worldview—everyday yet somehow grand in scope.
