Female K-pop idols: Girl groups you absolutely should keep an eye on [diverse charms to admire] (11–20)
DUN DUNEVERGROW

EVERGLOW, who debuted under Yuehua Entertainment in 2019.
As of 2021, the six members are: E:U, Yuehua’s first female trainee and the oldest in the group; Sihyeon, who appeared on the PRODUCE series; Mia, known for her cool performances; Onda, who appeared on Idol School; Aisha, a former JYP trainee fluent in Japanese; and Yiren, a Chinese member who appeared on PRODUCE 48.
Their title track and signature song “DUN DUN” from their first mini album released in 2020 surpassed 200 million views on its music video, raising expectations for them as a next-generation girl group.
Beyond their captivating visuals, their catchy melodies infused with girl-crush elements are truly addictive.
Their style is a polished, cool dance tune through and through.
Listening to EVERGLOW’s music at night will lift your mood even more.
시간을 달려서(Rough)GFRIEND

GFRIEND was formed in 2015.
They’re affectionately known as “Yochin,” short for “Yeoja Chingu,” which means “girlfriend.” Although they were from a small agency called SOURCE MUSIC, they broke out thanks to a video of their performance of “Me Gustas Tu,” where they kept dancing powerfully on an outdoor stage in heavy rain despite slipping multiple times.
In 2016, they soared to top-idol status, winning a total of 29 trophies in a single year with masterpieces like “Rough” and the lead track “NAVILLERA” from their first full album.
With a string of hits produced by the duo Iggy Youngbae, they sparked a Yochin whirlwind—at the time standing shoulder to shoulder with TWICE, or arguably even breaking big first.
Their appeal lies in their earnest attitude that fuels overwhelming performances, along with their grace and approachability.
From 2018 into 2019 and beyond, they shifted to a sexier, cooler style with songs like “Fever” and “MAGO,” revealing a new side of their charm, but on May 22, 2021, their activities abruptly ended following the expiration of their exclusive contracts with the agency.
The suddenness left many fans, myself included, in shock.
While it’s truly unfortunate that their group activities ended, GFRIEND’s songs will continue to shine now and always, and I wish the members even greater success in the future.
BBoom BBoom (뿜뿜)momoland

MOMOLAND, who were selected through Mnet’s survival audition program “Finding MOMOLAND,” debuted in 2016.
The original lineup consisted of Hyebin, JooE, Nancy, Ahin, Yeonwoo, Nayun, and Jane, and in 2017 Daisy and Taeha joined, making it a nine-member group.
However, in 2019 Yeonwoo and Taeha announced their departure, and Daisy also effectively left, leaving them as a six-member group.
They’re known for many songs with addictive hooks and highly catchy melodies, and their 3rd mini album “GREAT!” released in 2018 produced the massive hit title track “BBoom BBoom.” It created such a huge buzz that even top idols like TWICE and Wanna One got hooked.
They also made their Japan debut that same year.
While their comedic vibe was memorable, in recent years they’ve exuded a stronger, stylish image.
Their music is based on disco-inspired pop, which might particularly resonate with people who liked T-ARA.
Their sexy appeal is also spot-on without feeling overdone.
I sincerely hope they can overcome everything ahead.
GOOD NIGHTDreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher, affectionately known by the nickname “Duke” in Japan, debuted as a seven-member group in 2017 when Handong and Gahyeon joined the former group MINX.
Unlike MINX’s cheerful vibe, they’ve built their identity around a “nightmare” concept.
Their singular fusion of metal and K-pop sets them apart from typical idol images and captivates fans.
Alongside the two mentioned, JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon, and Dami all boast overwhelming performance power and charisma—they’re seriously cool! Their world, highlighted by high-velocity tracks like “GOOD NIGHT,” blends a rock-driven aesthetic with a mysterious allure.
Each song comes with a defined concept, and they even reveal a “mystery code” that hints at the next theme—another fun touch.
They’re also active in Japan, steadily growing their popularity through collaborations with games and a style that pairs well with anime songs.
ASAPSTAYC

STAYC debuted in 2020 as High Up Entertainment’s first girl group.
As they’re produced by Black Eyed Pilseung—the company’s founders and the hitmakers behind songs for TWICE, Apink, SISTAR, and more—they’re one of the most anticipated girl groups.
Sumin, Sieun, ISA, Seeun, Yoon, and J each have visuals that are often said to make them all “visual members.” Be sure to check out each member’s role models, too.
The group name, an abbreviation of “Star To A Young Culture,” carries the meaning of “becoming stars who lead young culture,” projecting a glamorous and colorful identity.
Their 2021 second single album track “ASAP” went viral thanks to the “kkukki dance,” climbing back up the charts for a long-running hit! With the “TeenFresh” concept that blends teenage vibes and freshness, their music is a real mood booster.
With their cute charm, they may be especially appealing to Japanese fans—definitely one to watch!
Rollin’Brave Girls

Brave Girls, also known as Bbugol, debuted in 2011.
They started as a five-member group with Eunyoung, SeoA, Yejin, Yujin, and Hyeran.
After several lineup changes, as of 2021 they’ve been active as a four-member group.
When you think of Brave Girls, their breakout hit Rollin’ comes to mind! Although the song was released in 2017, it became beloved among Korean men as a “Milboard” classic—a military + Billboard portmanteau—and when a video of their military consolation performance was uploaded in 2021, it caught fire and shot back up the charts.
Their steady efforts, including appearing on the reboot survival show The Unit, also contributed to their resurgence.
You could call them late bloomers, but the consistent, exceptional quality of their music earned them a loyal following.
Since breaking through, they’ve delivered tracks with a retro vibe and city-pop flavor, like We Ride.
Their choreography is cool, and that fresh yet mature, coming-of-age feel is just the best!
K-pop female idols: Must-watch girl groups with diverse, aspirational charms (21–30)
Ah-ChooLovelyz

They debuted in 2014 as Woollim Entertainment’s first girl group, and were especially highly regarded among rookie groups at the time.
The eight members are: leader and main rapper Babysoul; Jiae, the calm and visual member; Jisoo, whose cultural flair adds to her strong dance sense; the glamorous beauty Mijoo; Kei, the main vocalist known for her unbeatable aegyo; Jin, distinguished by her powerful vocals; Sujeong, the tallest member who often takes center; and Yein, the easygoing youngest member.
They have many songs about unrequited love—like their debut track “Candy Jelly Love” and one of their signature songs “Ah-Choo”—and alongside their pure, innocent style, it’s no exaggeration to say Lovelyz is synonymous with “first love,” with a charming freshness to match.
The rich, velvety tone of all their vocals is another highlight.
In recent years, they’ve added a refined, mature elegance to their classic idol appeal, further enhancing their charm with an image change in “Obliviate.”
