Wind Ensemble: Brass Band Pieces Popular with Girls. Masterpieces of Wind Music Recommended for Women.

Japan is known as a wind band powerhouse, with an estimated 13,000 ensembles nationwide.

In junior high and high school clubs, the majority of members are girls, and because the wind band club is so popular, many women have plenty of opportunities to experience wind band music.

With that in mind, I’ve written an article recommending wind band works for girls in wind bands and for adult women.

Many people fondly remember their wind band club days or are now active in community and workplace ensembles.

This time, I’ll introduce famous wind band pieces that girls and adult women alike can enjoy.

Ancient FlowerNishimura Yukiko

The ballad composed by Yukiko Nishimura vividly captures the delicate beauty of falling petals with rich emotion, gently embracing the hearts of both performers and listeners.

This work received high praise when performed by the Alabama All-State Middle School Band in the United States, with participants calling it “one of the most memorable pieces ever.” Scored for a diverse ensemble including flute, clarinet, trumpet, and more, its lush harmonies and relaxed tempo leave a pleasant afterglow for those who play and those who listen.

It’s a perfect piece for anyone who wants to cherish their passion for music while enjoying performing with friends.

Even if you don’t know the original title “La Macarena,” you probably know the word “mambo,” right? The song that made this word famous worldwide was this hit by the King of Mambo, Pérez Prado.

The shout of “Ah! Huh!” was extremely popular in Japan, too.

The alto sax solo and so on are arranged in a way that makes women fall in love.

Festival VariationsClaude Thomas Smith

It was commissioned by the United States Air Force Band and premiered by the ensemble in 1982, and it is known as one of C.T.

Smith’s signature works.

As the composer himself was a horn player, the horn parts are particularly striking.

The grandeur and power of the horns make this piece especially popular among women.

This piece is based on a children’s literary work by the Italian author Carlo Collodi, who has been beloved by many children for many years.

Since it’s a literary work also famous as a Disney film, it seems students often perform it.

It’s also a film that’s very popular among women, so I recommend it.

Symphonic OvertureJohn Barnes Chance

This is one of the works by James Charles Barnes, a composer known to everyone who has played in a wind band.

It opens with a brilliant fanfare for trumpets and trombones, expressing a grand, expansive world.

It is a highly popular piece in the wind band community among people of all genders.

Bilqis, the Queen of ShebaOttorino Respighi

Ballet Suite “The Queen of Sheba, Belkis” (Complete Version) (Wind Band)
Bilqis, the Queen of ShebaOttorino Respighi

It was originally an orchestral piece, but it was arranged for wind band and has become popular in the wind ensemble world.

The final movement is well known for being performed frequently at wind band competitions.

The section depicting the queen’s entrance is breathtaking, and I highly recommend it as a piece that is especially popular among women.

Composed in 1924, it is one of the works known as the Roman Trilogy, along with The Fountains of Rome and The Roman Festivals.

The original was written for orchestra.

It evokes the beautiful cityscape of Rome, doesn’t it? It’s a piece I especially recommend for women.
