Recommended Songs for Beginner Bands at School Culture Festivals
For students in bands, performing on the cultural festival stage is probably a major goal, isn’t it?
However, if you’ve only just started your instrument or have members with limited experience, choosing songs to play can be quite challenging.
The guitar might be easy but the drums are hard… or the drums are easy but the bass is hard… It’s tough to pick songs that are satisfying to listen to while keeping the difficulty under control.
So in this article, we’ll introduce recommended songs that beginners can definitely pull off if they practice hard.
The key is to be flexible—don’t cling too much to the original, and arrange the parts you absolutely can’t manage.
If you work on it with your bandmates while having fun as you prepare for your first stage, it’s sure to become a lifelong memory!

OrangeSPYAIR

A bittersweet yet powerful anthem that captures a fleeting moment of youth! Released in February 2024 as the theme song for the film “HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle,” this SPYAIR track was featured as the title song of the EP “Orange” and broke into the top 10 on streaming charts.
It paints scenes of sweet-and-sour youth and the emotions of parting with friends while holding onto hope for the future, all set to a fresh, energetic melody.

LOVE ROCKETSThe Birthday

This is the opening theme of the film THE FIRST SLAM DUNK, which was released in December 2022 and became such a major topic that it could be called a social phenomenon.
The song was crafted by The Birthday, with Yusuke Chiba—who has long been active in Japan’s rock scene—on guitar and vocals.
It’s a rock tune with a dark atmosphere, characterized by Chiba’s husky, cool voice.
If your band’s vocalist has a husky tone, this is definitely a song you should try.
Also, since the intro layers the bass, drums, and guitar one by one, it could work well in a live setting to open the show with this track and have the members enter the stage one at a time.
stella☆Silent Siren

Silent Siren is a unique all-female band in which every member is a reader model or has modeling experience.
Their songs are generally suitable for beginners.
Catchy tracks like “stella☆” are easier to cover, so they’re recommended.
GIVE ME FIVE!AKB48

AKB48 has many elaborate songs overall, but this one is approachable even for beginners.
The guitar solo isn’t very difficult either.
It’s also a good idea to cover the brass parts with a keyboard.
Since they’re a very well-known artist, it’s sure to get the crowd excited at live shows!
More lightBLUE ENCOUNT

A four-piece rock band formed in 2004, BLUE ENCOUNT’s track.
It’s a straightforward rock number that rides a driving, fast-paced groove with a passionate message.
For guitar, there’s a bridge-muted riff right at the start, along with plenty of arpeggios and chord-strumming phrases; since there aren’t many difficult techniques, it’s a good challenge for beginner guitarists.
The bass mostly sticks to root notes overall, but be mindful of phrases that use higher registers in the chorus and during the backing under the guitar solo.
The drums are fast in tempo and have many notes in the fills; if it’s too difficult, consider simplifying the fills to just repeated snare hits, focusing on maintaining momentum.
Don’t say lazySakurakou Keionbu

This is the second single by the girls’ band Sakuragaoka High School Light Music Club that appears in the TV anime K-ON!.
It was also used as the anime’s ending theme, and it’s a straightforward 8-beat rock number.
The guitar features various techniques such as off-beat riffs and arpeggios, but none of them are particularly difficult on their own, so focus more on staying in the groove than on the techniques themselves.
The bass is mostly root-note playing overall, but be careful not to lose the rhythm with the off-beat phrases in the interlude.
The drums are fundamentally 8-beat, but since there are many rapid-fire fills, practicing to keep the strokes even will help you add drive to the track.
Starting Oversumika

A refreshing and powerful message song that gently pushes the backs of those taking their first steps toward their dreams.
Released by sumika in June 2023 as the opening theme for the anime “MIX MEISEI STORY: The Second Summer, Beyond the Sky,” this track celebrates the joy of growing together with friends and the importance of cherishing what you love.
It supports and stands by anyone trying to take a step forward in a new environment.
Play it at the start of a school festival or cultural festival, and it will make everyone feel the beginning of a new story.
