The late film director Shohei Imamura, a two-time Palme d’Or winner at the Cannes Film Festival, founded the Japan Institute of the Moving Image as a place dedicated to studying film, in response to the decline of traditional movie studios. At Keio University’s Shonan Fujisawa Campus, the Tanabata Festival is held every year on the first Saturday of July.
