Recommended Japanese bands for men in their 50s

Isn’t it fair to say that people in their 50s are the generation that has been especially immersed in rock compared to others?

Those a bit older also admired bands like The Beatles and The Animals and listened to rock frequently, but it was undeniably the people now in their 50s who interpreted those songs in their own way and helped the genre evolve.

LAZY is a Japanese rock band formed in Osaka in 1973.

It was founded by Kageyama, Takasaki, and Tanaka, who had been classmates since elementary school.

In their early days they covered artists like Takuro Yoshida and Shigeru Izumiya, but gradually shifted to hard rock covers.

They debuted on RCA in 1977 and were compelled to follow an idol-oriented path, yet on stage they continued to perform rock numbers, showing their dedication to rock—their roots.

In 1980 they issued a “Heavy Metal Declaration” and released the album Spaceship Earth, a work unified by hard rock–style tracks.

The album marked a return to their origins and highlighted musical differences among the members, but ultimately became the best-selling record in LAZY’s catalogue.
