Masterpieces and popular songs by Fujifabric

Let me introduce you to some tracks by Fujifabric, whose songs carry a somewhat wistful mood that makes them so compelling.

Speaking of Fujifabric, the sudden passing of their vocalist Masahiko Shimura in December 2009 was truly shocking.

Even so, it’s moving to see that they didn’t stop and have continued their activities ever since.

Right after Shimura’s passing, at COUNTDOWN JAPAN, artists who were close to the band performed Fujifabric’s songs.

Among them, Tamio Okuda—who inspired Shimura to pursue music—reportedly broke down in tears during the live set.

Please enjoy the music of Fujifabric, a band beloved by many musicians and fans, and still cherished to this day.

You’re drawn in by an intro that makes your heart feel light.

It was released in 2005 as the fifth single.

Just listening to it puts you in a bright mood.

It’s a pop-rock tune that’s perfect for a clear blue sky after the rain.

BirthdayFujifaburikku

A surprisingly rare “cute” type of number.

Most people end up facing a reality that’s quite different from the person they once wanted to become, but taking that reality into account, we celebrate the special day of a birthday with positivity—hoping to “have a lovely dream” and that “it’ll be a wonderful night.” It’s a heartwarming, feel-good number, but perhaps Mr.

Shimura actually did become the person he wanted to be.

Sugar!!Fujifaburikku

Its pop, uplifting sound and straightforward vocals are encouraging.

Released in 2009 as their 11th single, it was selected as the broadcast theme song for the 2009 World Baseball Classic, drawing attention.

It’s a high-energy, fast-paced cheer song.

This track is a totally insane number with both perversion and addictiveness cranked into the red.

It’s so out there you wonder how the creators even came up with it—and how a major label decided to include it.

It feels like punk’s spirit expressed with a twisted progressive vibe and Nirvana-like dynamics—a problematic masterpiece where “weird” flips over into “cool.”

Surfer KingFujifaburikku

Among Fujifabric’s songs, this one especially evokes the feel of summer.

Released in 2007 as their eighth single, it lives up to its title with lyrics and a sound that conjure surfing and eternally sunny beaches.

It’s also a great pick for a summer drive playlist.

TAIFUFujifaburikku

An ultra-eccentric track crammed to the brim with Fuji Fabric’s signature “perversity.” The lyrics, the intro guitar phrase, the unison of guitar and synth in the chorus, the interlude, and even the music video—each element by itself makes you go, “What is this?” But when all of these fragments are packaged into a single song, you end up thinking, “This is kinda awesome!” That’s Fuji-fa magic, exactly.

Fujifabric’s classic and popular songs (21–30)

BaumkuchenFujifaburikku

Mr.

Shimura is the type who prefers to lay bare his weaknesses rather than put on a front, and in this song the lyrics are so seemingly negative that you could call it the pinnacle of that stance.

It’s not that they were in that form from the start; likened to a tree that grows as it adds rings—“Baumkuchen.” In Mr.

Shimura’s life there may have been “days when things didn’t go well” and times when he “stumbled,” but the songs he left behind continue to strike deeply at our hearts even now.
