Hopes and DreamsUNDERTALE

A track from the game UNDERTALE, which gained popularity with its groundbreaking story that turns traditional RPG systems and conventions on their head, under the catchphrase “a gentle RPG where nobody has to die.” It is the theme of Asriel Dreemurr, who appears in the final battle of the Pacifist Route—one of the paths branching from the protagonist’s choices—and features a cool BGM that progresses from a classical opening into a rock sound.
For those who know the story’s background, its dramatic arrangement is sure to move you.
With its exquisite key changes and beautiful melodies, this masterpiece is often hailed as “the perfect song to conclude an adventure.”
Overturedoragonkuesuto

At the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics held in July 2021, many pieces of video game music were used as the BGM for the parade of nations, and numerous creators involved in their production expressed their gratitude on social media—something still fresh in our memories.
It could be called an epoch-making moment in the history of game music, and the piece that graced that memorable opening was “Overture,” the iconic theme of the Dragon Quest series.
It’s so famous that saying “every Japanese person knows it” is hardly an exaggeration, and when it comes to the greatest pieces in game music, it’s one that many people would immediately name.
In the Dragon Quest series, it serves as the BGM on the title screen, and while the main melody remains the core, the arrangement varies by title.
Notably, the Famicom version of the masterpiece Dragon Quest III is a rare example where “Overture” was not used in the opening; instead, it appeared for the first time in the ending as “Loto’s Theme.” If you know the narrative connections among the first three games—often called the “Loto Trilogy”—you’ll notice the significance of that choice and find yourself moved all over again!
Shiokara-bushisupuratuun

This track appears in the Wii U game Splatoon and plays during the final boss battle of Hero Mode.
In the game’s setting, it’s said to be based on a folk song from the hometown of the idol duo the Squid Sisters, and it’s portrayed as a hugely popular song in-game.
The music itself features a lively EDM-style track with distinctive robotic vocals.
It has a vibe similar to a Vocaloid song and is very popular among players.
In fact, this song is available at karaoke, so if you’re a Splatoon fan, why not give it a try?
The Fierce Battle on the Big BridgeFainaru Fantajī V

A track from Final Fantasy V, the fifth installment in the globally popular Final Fantasy series, a towering pillar of Japanese RPGs.
Within the game’s complex system—where the map changes as the story progresses—it’s known as the theme for Gilgamesh, an enemy character whose striking personality has earned him the nickname “another protagonist.” The main theme’s comical melody is catchy, yet the piece is packed with compelling arrangements throughout, creating a perfect balance that keeps it engaging even on repeat listens.
Among the many classic tunes in the Final Fantasy series, this is one of the most well-known BGM tracks.
Wishes to the Galaxy: Staff RollHoshi no Kābii Sūpā Derakkusu

Born in 1992, Kirby celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022 and became a hot topic.
In recent years, its cuteness has only increased.
Kirby Super Star is the fourth entry in the Kirby series, released for the Super Famicom.
“Milky Way Wishes: Staff Roll” is the ending theme that plays after clearing the game.
The presentation of the staff credits scrolling upward like in a movie is moving in itself.
That sense of accomplishment mixed with a hint of loneliness as you finish the game… Game music resonates in people’s hearts, regardless of whether they’re adults or children!
Battle! Gym LeaderPoketto Monsutā

Released in 2019 as the eighth installment in the globally popular Pokémon series, Pokémon Sword and Shield features the track “Battle! Gym Leader” used in battles against the game’s eight Gym Leaders.
It’s characterized by programmed rhythms reminiscent of EDM and house, along with distinctive synthesizer sounds.
As the track progresses, bright pop melodies, crowd cheers, and call-and-response shouts join in, making it a techno tune that heats up the battles.
ZEROĒsu Konbatto Zero Za Berukan Wō

ZERO is the theme song of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, the sixth installment in the classic flight shooting series Ace Combat, where you pilot fighter jets to complete missions.
It’s the track used in the final mission and is a fan favorite.
Its sound—an impressive fusion of orchestral music and flamenco—really stands out, with the flamenco guitar adding a great touch.
In the middle section, you can also enjoy a traditional flamenco performance featuring guitar and castanets.
