Kokiri is the name of Kiki’s mother. The herring pie is a delivery entrusted to her by the elderly woman for her granddaughter. As an aside, both Kiki and one of the characters, Ursula, are voiced by the voice actress Minami Takayama.

Eboshi is the name of the woman who leads the people of the Tatara settlement. Incidentally, “tatara” is another name for the bellows, a tool used to blow air into heated iron.

Spider

Some people might be surprised because of the appearance and the fact that Yuko Tanaka voices the character, but Spider is a male character.

Concrete Road

The actual lyrics of “Concrete Road” are actually a bit longer than the ones Shizuku and Yūko sing in the film. If you’re curious, be sure to look them up.

The coal is what the soot sprites carry in the boiler room where Kamaji works, and the bath tokens are what No-Face offered only to Chihiro. When you first saw the soot sprites, didn’t they remind you of the Makkuro Kurosuke?

This is a scene where they eat vegetables that were chilled in a stream. The ones being chilled were cucumbers and tomatoes. In the scene where Mei heads to her mother by herself, she is carrying corn.

Director Hideaki Anno

This is director Hideaki Anno, known for works such as Neon Genesis Evangelion. When he was younger, Anno also worked on the production of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and he has long been acquainted with director Miyazaki.
