Winter SongSHISHAMO

This song, performed by three girls who were still in high school and included on their self-produced album “Graduation Project,” captivates with a fragility that feels like the crisp clarity of winter air turned into sound.

Its protagonist is a girl with a one-sided crush, and the lyrics intertwine her feelings for someone out of reach with the season’s chill, evoking bittersweet memories many of us share.

Clean guitar arpeggios and the surging dynamics in the chorus create a deeply affecting finish.

The track was included on an album released in January 2013 and was later re-released alongside their major-label debut album “SHISHAMO.” Although it had no tie-in, it has steadily become a seasonal staple.

On a winter night, when you want to quietly reflect on your feelings of love alone, this song is sure to keep you company.

Lost SheepChatto Monchī

Using Christmas-like motifs, it portrays a relationship in a deep freeze, stuck in a period of ennui.

Even though reason says “I’m done,” a single email that just says “thank you” brings you to tears—this contradictory feeling is captured with raw honesty in lyrics by Akiko Fukuoka.

The song was included as the B-side to the 2006 single “Shangri-La,” and can also be heard on the 2010 compilation Hyōjō .

Try listening to it alone on a cold night when your feelings for someone are wavering.

In that moment when you sway between bravado and your true feelings, it will surely stay by your side.

Stomp your bootsSHISHAMO

Have you ever felt a sudden yearning for someone in the clear winter air? This ballad by SHISHAMO is a song that gently stays by your side through those helpless winter feelings of love.

You want to see the one you like but can’t be honest about it—those frustrating emotions are rendered dramatically by the beautiful tones of the strings.

Released in December 2021 as the title track of a winter-themed concept project and later included on the album SHISHAMO 7, the piece reflects the deepening of their artistic expression.

If you listen on a night when your chilled hands make you hesitate to reach out, Asako Miyazaki’s emotionally rich vocals will surely give courage to your frozen heart.

It might just give you that gentle push you need to take one more step.

Winter Love…tsukimi

Tsukimi – Winter Love… Music Video
Winter Love...tsukimi

Tsukimi, known for her “fired-up gal rock” and based in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, took a different approach with the 11th digital single released in December 2024.

Dialing back the rock edge, the track is crafted as a Christmas song that brings the J-pop influences of vocalist/guitarist Nini-chan—her musical roots—to the forefront.

Featuring pure, straightforward lyrics and a delicate vocal performance, the song hints at new avenues of expression for the group.

The music video was self-produced by the members themselves, showcasing the band’s DIY spirit.

It’s a perfect pick for moments when you want to quietly reflect on your feelings for someone special on a winter’s day, or when you’re looking for a heartwarming tune for the Christmas season.

A Frozen SerenadeLOVEBITES

It’s a winter song with a melodic metal sound! The track is by LOVEBITES, a girls’ band formed in 2016 that’s also highly active overseas, and it’s included on their third album, ELECTRIC PENTAGRAM, released in 2020.

I’ve heard it’s a winter ballad created with the album’s release timing in mind.

The hard, dramatic sound and richly expressive vocals are truly overwhelming.

Highly recommended even for those who haven’t listened to metal before!

I×USilent Siren

I×USilent Siren

This is the first single ballad by Silent Siren, a group formed by former reader models.

It’s a heartwarming winter song that sings of the loneliness of not being able to see someone you want to meet and of feelings that continue to grow.

The lyrics portray a protagonist who cherishes small memories—like the other person’s voice and little quirks—and are sure to resonate deeply with anyone thinking of a loved one far away.

Released as a single in October 2013, the track is also included on the album “31 Wonderland,” and it was selected as a POWER PLAY on Nippon TV’s Music Dragon.

The emotionally rich vocals carried by the grand sound will bring warmth to listeners’ hearts in the season when we long for human touch.

Merry Christmas Eveyonige

From the title “Merry Christmas Eve,” you might expect a flashy track, but this piece—by the Osaka girl band yonige—actually begins with a very simple acoustic guitar tone.

The worldview, as if taking a step back and observing from the outside, feels quintessentially yonige.

The vocals, which convey a kind of languor that never quite reaches peak excitement, fit the ear perfectly.

It’s a song I’d love for anyone feeling lonely at Christmas to listen to.

It somehow lightens the heart.
