Songs that make you sound good at karaoke

Since the 2020s, the vocal skills demanded in Japan’s music scene have advanced dramatically, and most hit songs have become quite challenging.

Many people may feel that even if they want to sound good at karaoke, it’s hard to find the right songs.

So this time, we’ve picked out songs that make you sound great at karaoke!

Focusing mainly on Japanese music, we’ve selected a wide range from timeless classics to the latest hits.

Because these are songs that tend to “sound good,” we’ve centered our picks on tracks that are easy to sing—perfect even if you’re not confident in your vocal ability.

Songs that make you sound good at karaoke (51–60)

Morning GloryYamashita Tatsuro

Originally written for Mariya Takeuchi’s album “Miss M,” the song “MORNING GLORY” was later arranged by Tatsuro Yamashita himself.

Unusually for the time, the lyrics were also penned by Yamashita, and the light, shuffling beat gives it a refreshing feel.

Although the song is challenging due to its wide vocal range and intricate melodic movement, the lower register doesn’t appear often, so for karaoke, it’s best to set a higher key that matches your own range.

Also, to avoid slipping out of the bouncy rhythm, we recommend listening closely to the ensemble while you sing.

dogwood (flowering dogwood)Hitoto Yo

Hitoto Yo’s classic “Hanamizuki” is one of her biggest hits and is arranged as a gentle ballad throughout.

It features a catchy, singable vocal line, but the song spans a relatively wide range.

That means men can showcase their skill in the low notes at the start, while women can shine in the high parts of the chorus.

Although the vocal difficulty isn’t particularly high, it’s a must-listen for anyone looking for a song that’s easy to sing yet sounds impressive.

Yu Sakai / Summer Again (Short Ver.)
Summer Againsakaiyuu

Yu Sakai is an artist rooted in Black music like R&B and soul.

His track Summer Again is one of his go-to summer songs.

I say “go-to,” but the song itself has a really strong personality.

Case in point: the music video was shot at that pool.

It’s got a bit of a sultry vibe.

The song uses vocal runs, but with a few tricks it’s actually easy to sing.

If you deliver the lines with a slightly tossed-off, spit-out feel, it should be easier to pull off!

This is a download-only single performed by Kessoku Band, which appears within the 2022 TV anime “Bocchi the Rock!” I love Kessoku Band’s rock songs too and often sing “Guitar, Loneliness and Blue Planet,” but “That Band” is really tough—the tempo is fast and the rhythm is very distinctive! I recommend listening closely to the track before trying to sing it.

The timing to cut off words in the verse, the timing to hold notes in the chorus—once the melody starts there’s no place to rest, so rather than memorizing the whole song at once, I think it’s easier to understand and organize in your head if you learn it bit by bit, melody by melody.

Also, for the high notes like D5 and C5 in the last chorus, don’t pull the sound back—project your voice forward firmly! It’s like throwing with a burst of power.

Keep that in mind when you sing.

When it comes to stylish sounds, many people probably think of Suchmos.

Their track “808” features the kind of Jamiroquai-like vibe they excel at.

If you like songs with an acid-tinged atmosphere, you’ll probably enjoy this one! The vocals aren’t very difficult, so it’s recommended even for those who aren’t confident singers.

In particular, it’s not a song that requires a lot of volume, so even if you don’t have a powerful voice, you should be able to sing it steadily.

Give it a try!
