[Challenge] Practice Songs for Beginner Electric Guitarists (21–30)
Let It BeThe Beatles

It wouldn’t be an overstatement to call this one of the most famous rock bands in the world’s signature songs by The Beatles.
Because the tempo is relaxed, it’s a piece that even beginner guitarists should find approachable.
In the original recording, the guitar barely appears, but what I want you to focus on is the guitar solo.
This solo unfolds with a laid-back, spacious rhythm, and I’d love for beginners to give it a try! It’s surprisingly built from simple phrases, and it uses lots of essential guitar techniques—like bending, hammer-ons, and slides—so it’s a perfect song for getting comfortable with electric guitar phrasing.
Since it’s a world-famous classic, there are plenty of tutorial videos out there, so practice while using those as references!
Heavy rotationAKB48

Recognized as one of AKB48’s signature songs and beloved by a wide range of age groups, “Heavy Rotation” is a perfect rock number for those just starting to practice guitar.
The band sound opens with crisp guitar cutting and unfolds over a driving, fast-paced rhythm.
With rhythm guitar phrases that make extensive use of palm muting and a lead guitar part suited for practicing single-note lines, it also works well for a four-piece band.
In the interlude, there’s a guitar phrase using slide techniques primarily on strings 1 through 3, allowing you to master a broad range of techniques.
Because tight, rhythmic playing is key to this song, be sure to focus on muting and brushing as you practice.

elevated lineELLEGARDEN

The technique of plucking strings one by one is called arpeggio, and this is perfect for practicing it! It’s included on ELLEGARDEN’s 2006 album “ELEVEN FIRE CRACKERS.” This mid-tempo guitar rock track features dynamic shifts in the arrangement and vocalist Takeshi Hosomi’s soaring high tones.
The arpeggio phrase is very simple, making it ideal for beginners.
Also recommended as the first song for a cover band set.
avocadoyonige

This is “Avocado,” one of yonige’s signature songs.
The guitar part mainly uses chord strumming, making it recommended for beginners who want to get better at chords.
The chord changes might feel a bit fast, but start at a slow tempo and gradually speed up.
I also think the arpeggio in the A section is perfect for practice.
Girl SSCANDAL

This song, one of the signature tracks by the girls’ band SCANDAL, is actually perfect for guitar practice.
First, the tempo is on the slower side and the chords are simple.
The single-note sections aren’t very difficult either, so you can take on your first guitar solo without pushing yourself.
TRAIN-TRAINZa Burū Hātsu

THE BLUE HEARTS, a four-piece rock band that won overwhelming support from junior high and high school students nationwide and remains legendary even after disbanding.
Their third single, TRAIN-TRAIN, used as the theme song for the TV drama High School Graffiti, is still celebrated as a classic that transcends generations.
While technically simple, it serves as backing in sync with the drum beat, so it’s important to pick along with the recording even when practicing alone.
As a song everyone knows, it’s a rock tune guaranteed to get the crowd going when performed live.
Tomorrow as wellSHISHAMO

As a staple artist of girls’ rock bands, SHISHAMO is popular even with general audiences.
This song, known as one of their signature tracks, was also used in a commercial, so many of you may already be familiar with it.
At first glance it looks difficult because you move up and down the fretboard, but it mainly involves shifting positions based on the open F chord shape.
Once you can get the F chord to ring cleanly, give this song a try.
At first, you might find that not all the strings ring out, but you’ll get used to it with practice! Unlike an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar has comparatively thinner and softer strings, so if you’ve struggled with the F chord on acoustic, definitely give it another shot on electric!
