Of course, basic exercises are important, but it’s hard to keep going with just that.

So find a song you like from the ones introduced here, and aim to improve while having fun playing!

[Challenge] Practice Songs for Beginner Electric Guitarists (41–50)

Scatter! Summer peopleYabai T-shatsu Yasan

A three-piece rock band, Yabai T-Shirts Yasan, fires up audiences with high-energy songs and live performances.

This track was created because, despite playing tons of summer festivals, they didn’t have a “summer song” in their repertoire.

It’s an addictive rock tune that practically guarantees a crowd-pleasing live response.

Since it mainly uses power chords and basic techniques like palm-muted phrases, it’s perfect as a practice piece for beginner electric guitarists.

However, if you’re playing it in a band, you’ll likely be singing while playing, so make sure to practice balancing both.

My Hair is Bad is a three-piece rock band that made its major-label debut in 2016 after supporting various bands on tour since their high school days when they first formed.

The song Macca, included on their second single Hitomebore e.p.

and their major-label debut album Woman’s, is known for catapulting the band to fame.

The guitar work, which blends arpeggios and strumming, sits relaxed against the song’s tempo, making it a good recommendation for beginner guitarists.

Since the piece mainly uses basic techniques, it’s a number you can play comfortably even within a full band ensemble.

Blitzkrieg BopRamones

The Ramones, a U.S.

band that had a tremendous impact on later punk rock scenes.

This track, which was also featured in the film Rock ’n’ Roll High School in which they appeared, showcases a simple yet passionate band performance.

Over rock ’n’ roll–based drumming, guitar riffs ring out using power chords.

The guitar part essentially repeats three chords, so there aren’t many to memorize—that’s a plus.

Another power chord appears in the latter half of the song, but you can handle it by slightly shifting your finger position.

It’s also a recommended song for those who want to master guitar strumming and fretting techniques.

Anarchy In The UKSEX PISTOLS

The Sex Pistols are a punk rock band that released songs filled with irony and social commentary.

This track they released in 1976 is a rock classic that has been covered by many artists, including Megadeth.

From the very beginning, phrases built on passionate power chords ring out, showcasing a heavy band sound.

In the guitar solo, it moves from high-position single-note lines into slide techniques, then returns to power chords.

The song also features phrases that use rhythmic hammer-ons, making it a piece where you can enjoy both the passionate elements of punk and the musicality of rock ’n’ roll.

STAY TUNESuchmos

As one of Suchmos’s signature songs, this famous track is perfect for practicing cutting.

It mainly features single-note cutting, and the tempo isn’t that fast, so it’s probably easier than you’d imagine.

The chord phrases that appear midway should also be manageable, at least in terms of just getting the sound out.

Myself ROCKONE OK ROCK

When you start an instrument, you want to be able to play cool songs, right? Here’s a track from the currently popular ONE OK ROCK.

The intro might be a bit challenging, but if you’ve got your fundamentals down, I think you can handle it.

It’s recommended for beginner guitarists who want to practice a cool song.

How about a classic that has continued to be loved as a girls’ band anthem? It’s one of Chatmonchy’s signature songs, released in 2006.

It was used as the ending theme for the anime “Hataraki Man,” which made it a hot topic.

There’s a very simple guitar phrase that’s perfect for practicing backing, and it’s also a decisive element that defines the song’s impression.

Since it uses irregular time, make sure to learn the song structure well before taking it on.

First-time guitar-vocalists are welcome to give it a try too!
