Let’s turn a jar into a monster-themed lantern.

Once you decide on your monster motif, paint the outside of the jar and the lid with paint.

Create facial features using googly-eye stickers and felt fabric, then attach them to the jar.

Place an LED light inside the jar and close the lid to finish.

Be sure to choose paint that can adhere to glass.

A hot glue gun is handy for attaching parts.

The thickness of the paint will affect how much light shines through, so you can intentionally leave uneven brushstrokes to give your lantern more character.

Jack-o’-lantern in a jar

Prepare a handle keeper, wire lights, transparent origami paper, and round stickers.

Fold the transparent origami paper to make balloons, then cut the round stickers to create facial features and stick them on.

Make a stem from green origami paper, attach it, and inflate—your pumpkin is complete.

Please make several pumpkins.

Attach the wire lights all around the inside of the handle keeper, and place the pumpkins inside to finish the lantern! If you put aurora cushion material at the bottom of the handle keeper, it will look even more stylish and beautiful.

Ghost lantern made with washi paper and balloons

This ghost lantern is made using the papier-mâché method, and if you add a handle, it becomes a portable lantern! It also doubles as a handy treat bag.

Inflate a balloon to the size you want your lantern to be, then mist it with water.

Stick torn pieces of washi paper all over the balloon, avoiding the knot.

Brush on a mixture of water and glue in a 1:1 ratio, then layer on more washi paper.

Add the ghost’s face and let it dry.

Pop the balloon and remove it, then attach a handle.

Finally, place an LED light inside to finish.

Papier-mâché jack-o’-lantern

[Recommended for elementary school crafts: Pumpkin Lantern 🎃] We made a papier-mâché Jack-o’-lantern using the bumpy bottom of a plastic bottle 👻 You can fill it with candy or pop in a dollar-store LED candle to use it as a lampshade ✨ Because of the bumps, sticking on the paper took some patience (lol), but once it dried it blended to the bottle, hardened nicely, and when you put a light inside it has a beautiful translucent finish—so satisfying 😊 My 4-year-old daughter helped cut and paste crepe paper, and she even made the face herself ✂️ When it was done she squealed “So cute!” (lol) She loved it so much she said, “I want to bring it to the kindergarten Halloween party!” 🎃 Tips for applying crepe paper: Brush a little watered-down white glue onto the plastic bottle, place the paper on it, then brush watered-down glue over the entire piece of paper to smooth it down—repeat. If you touch the area before it dries, the paper may tear, so try not to touch it. Materials (for 1 lantern): • Two plastic bottles from carbonated drinks • Crepe paper in your favorite colors (tissue paper or washi also work 👍) • One green chenille stem/pipe cleaner • Beads of your choice (with holes big enough for the pipe cleaner) • A little black paper • (Optional) googly-eye stickers Tools: • Utility knife • Scissors • Masking tape • Wood glue/white glue • Paintbrush • Coarse sandpaper • Frying pan and parchment paper • Something to make holes (awl or rotary tool) Safety notes: • Be careful not to cut your hands on the cut edge of the plastic bottle. • Any steps using heat should be done by an adult with great care to avoid burns. • When using it as a lantern, use LED candles only—never real flames (no wax candles). Prepare two plastic bottles: cut one 5–7 cm up from the bottom, and the other 2.5 cm up from the bottom.

Use the larger piece as the lantern body and the smaller one as the lid.

Line a heated frying pan with parchment paper and gently press the cut edges of the bottles against it.

Once they’re rounded, mix water and glue in a 1:4 ratio and use the mixture to attach torn crepe paper all over the surface.

Make a hole in the center of the lid, secure a pipe cleaner threaded with beads, insert a light, and you’re done.

It can also be used as a small storage container.

mini lantern

This is a mini lantern made using an R-1 plastic bottle.

It looks like a real lantern, but it’s easy to make, so give it a try! First, cut the plastic bottle into three equal parts and recycle the middle section since you won’t use it.

Wrap black masking tape around the cut edges of the top and bottom sections, and cover the entire bottom section with black tape.

Finally, cover the cap with black tape as well, make a hole, and attach a chenille-stem handle to finish.

It looks cute if you put ghost stickers or similar on the clear part.

Place an LED tea light or other candle light inside and enjoy.

Lantern made with 100-yen store materials

Super easy! How to make a dollar-store jack-o'-lantern!
Lantern made with 100-yen store materials

For those who want to be eco-friendly while trying a DIY project, a jack-o’-lantern made with 100-yen store materials is recommended.

First, buy a solar garden light, a pumpkin-shaped container, and some glass marbles at a 100-yen shop.

Next, cut off the lower part of the solar light; using a saw makes it easy.

Then put the glass marbles into the pumpkin container and embed the solar light there—that’s it.

This way you don’t use fire or batteries, so it’s eco-friendly.

Lantern made with UV resin

[UV Resin] I Tried Making a Halloween-Style Mini LED Lantern with Miracle Resin 🎃 Easy Handmade Halloween Decorations!
Lantern made with UV resin

In recent years, crafts using UV resin have become popular.

So I’d like to introduce making a Halloween lantern with UV resin.

First, purchase a ready-made lantern.

Then use UV resin to draw any illustrations you like on it.

Adding colorants will give it an even more beautiful finish.

Finally, cure it and you’re done.

If you’re not familiar with handling UV resin, it might be a good idea to learn the basics before giving it a try.
