Fabric keychains: How-to and idea roundup [Great for using fabric scraps!] (1–10)
Keychain made from bag webbing

When you make a bag by hand, you often end up with extra bag webbing.
If it’s too short to use as bag handles, this keyholder is just the thing to make.
You’ll attach a swivel snap hook to the webbing.
Add leftover fabric or tags to give it a unique, original touch.
Sew the webbing, leftover fabric, and tags together with a sewing machine.
Thread on the swivel hook, fold the webbing in half, and align the ends—your lovely keyholder is complete.
You can use not only leftover webbing but also bag webbing sold at 100-yen shops.
It’s a project you can make easily and casually.
bag-shaped charm

The cute mini bag–shaped keychain is the perfect accent for your belongings.
First, prepare two pieces of fabric: one measuring 7×11 cm and another 3×8 cm.
Slightly fold back both short ends of the 7×11 cm piece and press with an iron to set.
Fold it in half to form the shape of a bag, and press the fold to crease.
Mark the center of the bag’s edge with a chalk pen, then mark 1 cm to the left and right of the center as well.
Using transfer decals for the bag’s design is convenient.
Fold the piece right sides together, sew both sides with a sewing machine, then turn it right side out.
Fold the 3×8 cm fabric into quarters lengthwise and stitch it.
Sew it onto the points you marked on the bag, attach the keychain hardware, and you’re done.
Mini keychain pouch

A keychain-style mini pouch that can hold and carry your wireless earbuds is a stylish way to keep those easy-to-lose earbuds with you.
First, cut the fabric for the pouch.
Use both an outer fabric and a lining; choosing different patterns for each will give it a lively finish.
Prepare three sizes: 10×16 cm, 8×8 cm, and 4×4 cm.
Also have a 1.5 cm D-ring and a snap ready.
Apply fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the outer fabric, then sew each piece together with a sewing machine.
Attach the D-ring, shape it into a flap-closure pouch, and fasten the snap to complete it!
Cat keychain

Here’s a keychain I’d like to recommend for cat lovers.
Let’s make a keychain featuring cat embroidery using felt fabric.
Felt is soft and pleasant to the touch, so you can create a keychain with a gentle feel.
Prepare cat-shaped felt pieces cut according to the template, along with small felt parts for the mouth area and decorations.
Sew the mouth piece in place, stuffing it with filling partway through before closing it up.
For any areas you want to decorate, sew on the decorative felt pieces using the same steps as the mouth.
Feel free to embroider the cat’s face and patterns as you like.
Thread the hardware, then sew on the felt piece that will become the back of the cat while adding stuffing as you go.
Add a collar or other touches—use your creativity to finish a lovely piece.
Keychain with Indian embroidered ribbon

Indian embroidered ribbons, used to decorate the hems of women’s garments, make beautiful accents.
Let’s try making a keychain with delicate embroidered ribbons featuring motifs like flowers, lace, and beads.
You can turn it into a bag charm or use a swivel clasp or key ring—choose whatever hardware you like.
Cut the Indian embroidered ribbon to the length you want for the keychain.
Since a keychain has a front and back, consider the embroidery pattern before cutting.
Fold the ribbon in half, create pleats at the top, and stitch them in place.
Attach another ribbon to hide the pleats, add the hardware, and you’re done.
The method is simple, but using Indian embroidered ribbon results in a lovely keychain.
[Punch Needle] Fluffy Keychain

How about making a yarn keychain with punch needle? First, transfer your pattern onto the embroidery fabric.
You can use a chalk pen or a permanent marker.
Next, thread your favorite color yarn through the punch needle and start punching from the outside of the pattern.
For the outermost line, try to keep the stitches close together.
To prevent the yarn loops from tangling, cut the loops after going around twice.
After trimming the yarn, cut the embroidery fabric larger than the pattern, apply adhesive, and fold the fabric inward.
Finally, attach the keychain hardware and you’re done!
Initial key holder

This is a keychain we’d love embroidery lovers to try making.
Trace an initial onto your preferred fabric and stitch it together with a needle.
Attach the initial-shaped fabric to felt, then cut along the outline.
If you sew on a patch—like an animal—before cutting, it will look even cuter.
Overcast the cut edges, then attach them to a leather cloth with a ribbon sandwiched in, and trim.
Sew around the edge with a blanket stitch, thread the hardware through, and you’re done.
As an extra touch, adding beads when threading the hardware is adorable too.
Of course you can put it on your keys, but it would also make a charming accent on a child’s bag.
