This design represents classic osechi dishes in a tiered jubako box using stamps.

You can carve your own stamps from erasers or use store-bought ones.

After stamping, adding colors with pens or drawing patterns will make it look even nicer.

Even though they’re stamps, the process of “packing” the jubako is fun, and it seems interesting to change the contents depending on the recipient.

If you’re looking for a memorable New Year’s card design that can be used regardless of the zodiac year, please feel free to use this as inspiration.

Masking tape torn-paper art: “Daruma-san”

Introducing a New Year’s card featuring a daruma that you can make by tearing masking tape! You’ll need masking tape, a pen, and tweezers.

Tear the masking tape in the color you want for the daruma and shape it into a head.

Imagine the finished design and stick it where you like.

Use tweezers to round it out neatly, then tear another piece of masking tape for the body.

Leave a small gap between the head and body; it’s easier if you add a connecting strip afterward.

Shape the body with tweezers as well.

Finally, draw the face and body details with a pen, and you’re done! Adding gold or silver masking tape or patterned tape around the edges will make it feel even more festive for the New Year, so it’s highly recommended.

Writing New Year’s cards can be a lot of work, right? Many people probably buy pre-designed cards and just add a short message because there’s not enough time.

But that can get expensive, especially if you’re sending a lot of cards.

So here’s an idea: simply stamp a hanko and the design side is done! Even with just one stamp, you can make a great-looking card by using a larger stamp or adding effects like gradients.

Try looking for stamps at 100-yen shops or online stores.

New Year’s greeting card made using origami

New Year’s greeting card made using origami

Here are some ideas for creating New Year’s cards by attaching origami! First, let’s make Mount Fuji.

Turn the paper over so the back faces up, place a corner toward you, and fold it into a triangle twice to make crease lines.

Fold the top corner down to the center, then fold the tip up to the edge, and fold the very tip slightly downward.

Flip it over, and fold the upper left and right edges in to meet the center line.

Fold the bottom corner up to just before the center line, and Mount Fuji is done.

Next, the sun.

With the paper flipped to the back, fold it into a triangle twice, open it up, and fold it using the “zabuton” (cushion) base.

Fold all four corners in by about 2 cm, and it’s complete.

Lastly, the cloud.

Place a corner toward you and fold in half.

With an edge now facing you, fold it in the “kite” base style.

Keep the narrower end toward you.

Flip it over, fold the bottom edge up leaving about 1 cm margin, then fold only the right corner down to align with the bottom edge, and fold the remaining upper-right corner so it lines up with the diagonal—done! Each step is simple, so give it a try.

Even just painting Mt.
