strap

A practical, everyday project I recommend is a felt strap.
Cut felt into the shape of your favorite character or animal, and position it so that a strap attachment is sandwiched in between.
Carefully stitch the pieces together, and add stuffing inside to create a plump shape.
Then, use felt or embroidery thread to attach facial features like the eyes, mouth, and nose for an expressive finish.
Since you can attach it to a key ring or bag, it’s something you can enjoy in daily life even after it’s finished.
It doesn’t take much time because it’s made on a small scale, and by playing with color combinations and facial expressions, you can create a one-of-a-kind original piece.
amulet

A charm made from felt is a warm, compact craft that still lets you express your personality.
Cut the felt into the shape of a charm, apply double-sided tape to one side, and form a small pouch.
Fill the pouch with beads, tiny parts, and sparkly stickers—materials that brighten your mood just by carrying them.
Thread a cord or ribbon through it so you can take it with you as a handy everyday item.
You can freely arrange shapes and colors, and by setting a wish or theme, you’ll add a sense of story to your piece.
Once finished, you can attach it to a bag or pencil case, making it a practical item too.
cup sleeve

Introducing felt cup sleeves for use with paper cups.
Cup sleeves make it easier to hold drinks in paper cups and can also help with heat retention.
Fold the felt in half and align it with a cup-sleeve pattern.
You can download the pattern online.
Cut along the pattern and sew—there isn’t much sewing to do.
Felt doesn’t fray easily, so leaving raw edges is fine.
Please use one when you buy a piping-hot coffee in a paper cup from a convenience store.

wallet

Wallets are often made of faux leather, but you can actually make them with felt too.
Here, we’ll use a piece of fabric measuring 36 cm by 27 cm.
First, cut the fabric in half lengthwise so it becomes long and narrow, then sew the pieces together to make one long strip.
From there, fold the fabric and sew it into the shape of a wallet with one pocket on the outside.
Basically, you just fold and sew straight lines, so even beginners should find it relatively easy to make.
It’s also recommended as a wallet for children.
pincushion

Here’s a small pincushion made from felt.
It’s a cute donut-shaped cushion where you can stick and store your sewing needles.
Transfer the donut-shaped pattern and the chocolate topping onto felt fabric.
Once transferred, cut along the lines.
Sew the pieces together, combining the donut and the chocolate topping.
To make it look like chocolate sprinkles, stitch the chocolate part using threads in various colors.
Stuff it with filling, sew it closed, and it’s complete.
You can use it to hold needles, but it also makes a fun toy for small children.
hair tie

Let’s try making a cute ribbon hair tie.
Sew a piece of felt into a pouch shape, form it into a ribbon, and stitch the center to hold it in place.
Make the tails from another piece of felt, then sew them to the ribbon.
After that, sew on a store-bought elastic, and you’re done.
I’ve shown a ribbon here, but you could also try motifs like flowers, stars, or animals.
Felt and hair elastics are available at 100-yen shops.
This can be made by hand-sewing, so it’s perfect as a sewing project for children.
trivet

Here’s an introduction to making a trivet from felt.
Take a square piece of felt and cut several slits starting from the center.
Prepare several felt strips.
It’s recommended to make strips in a variety of colors.
Weave the felt strips through the slitted felt as if you’re braiding.
Make another piece in the same way, and if you’re using fusible felt, set it with an iron.
If your felt isn’t fusible, that’s fine too.
Use an awl to make holes along the edges so you can sew them with yarn, then stitch to finish.
You can also customize it by changing the size or making it circular.
