Easy Yarn Keychains: Recommended for Craft Beginners (1–10)
pom-pom

The round shape is adorable and it feels great to the touch! Here’s a keychain idea using pom-poms.
You can use a pom-pom maker sold at 100-yen shops, or if you don’t have one, you can substitute a U-shaped piece of cardboard.
First, wrap yarn around the cardboard; when it reaches a good size, tie the center with a separate piece of yarn and remove it.
Cut the loops at the top and bottom with scissors, then trim the excess yarn to shape it into a ball.
Make about three of these, thread them together with a needle, attach the hardware, and you’re done! Try making it with your favorite yarn.
chick

Here’s how to make a mascot keychain of a chick with a plump shape and adorable beady eyes.
It’s an amigurumi made by crocheting yarn into separate parts for the wings and body.
Thread the yarn around your finger to form a loop, then repeat the steps of stitching in order.
If you’re new to crocheting, it’s also recommended to try making just the body part first.
Once you create the face using the eye parts and yarn to represent the beak color, it’s complete.
Finally, make a loop at the top of the chick so you can use it as a keychain.
A tip for giving the chick a three-dimensional look is to stuff it generously with filling.
Cat’s tail

Over the past few winters, I’ve been seeing fluffy yarn at 100-yen shops.
Let’s use this soft, pleasant-to-touch yarn to make a cat-tail-like keychain.
Even if you’re not good at knitting, no worries—you won’t use needles.
You can make it with finger knitting.
Wrap the yarn around the four fingers except your thumb, lay the yarn in front, and thread it over each finger.
Repeat the same steps until you reach your desired length, bind off, tidy up the end, and pull to shape—your tail is done.
Adding a cat-like detail, such as a paw-pad charm, would be cute too.

hedgehog

Why not try making a cute hedgehog mascot keychain using wool felt and yarn? The hedgehog’s body and face are made with wool felt, and the spines are represented with yarn.
Keep needling the wool to form a round base, shape it to your liking, and add the nose and eyes.
Cut the yarn into lengths of about 20 cm and split each piece in half.
Needle the halved yarn into place.
The split yarn creates a nice fluffy texture.
It’s a technique you can probably apply to crafts other than hedgehogs, too.
knit cap

A cute keychain shaped like a tiny doll-sized knit hat with a fluffy pom-pom on top.
You’ll use yarn, but there’s no knitting involved, so it’s fine even if you’re not good at knitting.
You’ll need yarn, embroidery thread, and thick paper (cardstock).
Make a ring with the thick paper, then take a 20 cm piece of yarn, fold it in half, pass it through the paper ring, make a loop, and pull the yarn ends through the loop.
Repeat this process.
Once the paper ring is filled with yarn, leave a few centimeters at the end and tie it with yarn that has an embroidery-thread loop passed through it.
Trim the yarn ends—the pom-pom part—with scissors to finish.
ribbon

Would you like to try making a ribbon-shaped keychain with knitting needles? We’ll knit it in 1×1 rib stitch, alternating knit and purl stitches every stitch.
It’s easy even for first-time knitters.
Once you’ve knitted to a length of around 30 cm, bind off, thread it through a ring, wrap it around, and tie it into a ribbon shape.
Adjust the shape and attach the keychain hardware to finish.
Because 1×1 rib looks the same on both the right and wrong sides, it has the same appearance from any angle, making it perfect for a ribbon shape—a feminine keychain that adults can wear too.
straw hat

Here’s an idea for making a small straw-hat keychain.
Use crochet to work in the round, increasing stitches as you go.
The basic method is to single crochet while increasing, so as long as you don’t make mistakes at the start or when increasing, it should be relatively easy to make.
Even beginners at knitting or crochet, or those who can’t read crochet charts, can manage by taking it slow and following along with a video, working one round at a time.
Stuff the center of the circular piece with fiberfill, shape it, and attach felt to the back with glue.
You can also adapt this idea to make a brooch or other accessories, not just a keychain.
