There are times when signing things like reading cards—the quintessential kids’ homework—can feel like a chore when it’s every day.

But if you turn the signature into popular characters like Hello Kitty or My Melody, it becomes something you can enjoy together, and it motivates your child too—highly recommended! It’s also nice and easy because you can just use the square box and draw eyes, a nose, and a mouth.

Since the illustrations are so simple, it can be hard to tell which character it is in black and white, so make sure to have some colored pencils ready!

This is Nanairo Mom from “Easy Character Drawing”! 🎨 This time, I’m showing how to draw Tamagotchi ☝️ It’s been 28 years since it was released—can you believe it? 😱 Since I remember when it was all the rage, I’m shocked it’s been that long 😇 Which character do you like? 🥚☺️ I recommend saving this so you can draw it anytime 👍 - @nanairo_illust ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ On this account, I share “Easy Character Drawing” tips 🎨 / ✏️✨ Cute illustration tweaks kids will love 🎒 / 🎨 Make your child’s belongings cute in 30 seconds 🎨 A must-see for anyone involved with kids 💡 🎨 Quickly draw the illustrations kids want 🙌 🎨 Super simple yet somehow looks just like the real thing! ▶︎ Likes and comments mean a lot 🥹 ▶︎ Feel free to send requests 🌸 ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ ꔛ#How to draw charactersSimple illustrationKids will love itHow to draw simple characters#Tamagotchi

Speaking of popular items from the Heisei era, Tamagotchi comes to mind.

This compact handheld game was small enough to carry in one hand and clip onto a bag, and its fun, cute characters took the world by storm.

How about quickly sketching illustrations that highlight the simple, heartwarming characters—like Mametchi and Kuchipatchi—in the signature box on a child’s homework? Their sparkly, wide eyes and gentle vibes make their expressions adorable, and kids are sure to love them even if they don’t know the characters!

Speaking of “garake,” it refers to Galápagos keitai—feature phones that were widely produced from around the 2000s, when functions like internet connectivity were expanded.

The clamshell flip phones—so nostalgic, right? There are even stories about them being snapped clean in half during arguments.

Drawing these garake phones gives a nice retro vibe.

I’m sure some of you used to have one.

Let this illustration wrap you in that Heisei-era retro feel.

Purikura-style illustration

Let’s draw purikura-style illustrations that were popular even in the Heisei era.

First, choose a background, then cut out the person from their original background and place them on it.

Layer sparkles and stars on top, and add text and hearts as well.

Don’t forget to stamp plenty of stickers.

Once one is finished, arrange a large version and a small version side by side like real purikura.

It will make it feel more authentic.

You can stick them in a planner, turn them into keychains, slip them into a phone case—there are lots of ways to use them.

Give it a try!

Latte art of Heisei-era characters

@naoki_lat_art

How many nostalgic Heisei-era characters can you draw in this one cup? Latte art, nostalgic, Heisei, nostalgic.

Here’s a video of latte art featuring nostalgic characters from the Heisei era.

It’s exciting when you spot a familiar face in the foam, isn’t it? You might see Docomodake from the commercials, the eerie Kobito Zukan characters, the soothing Ocha-ken, Tarepanda, and more—there may even be characters you recognize but can’t remember the names of.

Some people might find it hard to drink the part with their favorite character.

An illustration for the first time in a while 🎨 (My daughter took the photo, so it’s super blurry...) Nostalgic characters from the Heisei era ♡♡ I even drew the hearts around them to match the vibe of that time 💘 How many can you recognize? 🤣🩵#IllustrationOne-stroke drawingHeiseiTranslation#NurseryTeacherMomRecommendation

How about trying to draw some Heisei-era characters as illustrations? Even just simple felt-tip pen lines can look really cute.

If you used to draw them a lot, you might feel like you’ve started to forget after not drawing for a while.

Just recalling and sketching characters like Ocha-ken, Namacha Panda, or Usako Friends can bring back those old memories and make you feel wonderfully nostalgic, right? You might also find that, even though you drew them often back then, you’ve forgotten the finer details.

In that case, use the overall look as a reference and give it another try.

Let’s make a keychain that feels like it’s packed with all your memories of the Heisei era.

Hand-draw the illustration in the center and color it in.

Once you place the illustration in the middle of the keychain, start sticking lots of puffy stickers on both sides of the outer area.

You can actually buy “Heisei fancy character” stickers online and elsewhere.

Tile stickers were also a popular type of sticker during the Heisei period—let’s add those too.

Try attaching your keychain, filled with your favorite Heisei vibes, to your bag and carry it around!
