hide's masterpieces and popular songs (21–30)
MISCASThide

A self-cover of a song written and composed by hide during the X era.
Compared to X’s version, this one has much heavier effects—especially spatial distortion—so much so that it’s practically a different song, deeply imbued with hide’s signature style.
I recommend listening to it alongside X’s version to really experience hide’s individuality.
OBLAAThide

This song is hide’s first solo single.
It was released on August 5, 1993.
The single was released simultaneously with his second single, “50% & 50%.” While the music video’s psychedelic visuals are striking, the track itself has a strong rock feel with a pop finish.
crimsonhide

As the guitarist of the metal rock band X JAPAN, he captivated many music fans with his phenomenal technique.
After the band disbanded, he continued to work with overseas artists and others.
Even though many years have passed since his death, he remains immensely popular.
Pink Spiderhide

Unusually for a hide track, the lyrics are highly narrative.
As the title “Spider” suggests, its sticky riffs and sound linger in your ears.
The effective use of electronic elements adds impactful staging that enhances the story.
DOUBT ’97(MIXED LEMONed JELLY MIX)hide

This is the 1997 re-recorded version of “DOUBT,” rearranged as hide with Spread Beaver.
The original track was included on HIDE’s second single “50% & 50%,” released on August 5, 1993, under his solo name.
This version adds even more aggressive lines that weren’t in the original “DOUBT.” The song has been rearranged multiple times, and it feels like it was a very important piece to hide.
Give it everything you’ve got—you’re not going to die.hide

These are the words of HIDE, who was active as the guitarist of X JAPAN from 1987 to 1997.
It’s said that he struggled with complexes as a child, and perhaps he wanted to convey that if you try your hardest, you can make things work out.
The same person who made such statements sadly met an untimely death in 1998—whether it was suicide or an accident remains unclear.
FISH SCRATCH FEVERhide

This is a song included on the album “Ja, Zoo,” which was released as an SHM-CD in 2008.
It’s an album-exclusive track said to have been completed by Spread Beaver from recordings hide left behind during his lifetime.
It’s a pleasantly up-tempo rock number.
