[K-On!] Songs by Ho-kago Tea Time
Based on a four-panel manga, K-On! is a story that portrays the everyday lives of girls who join a light music club on the verge of being disbanded, with the club as the main focus.
The anime began airing in April 2009, and a second season followed in 2010.
It was loved by not only anime fans but a wide range of people, sparking a major boom.
The “anime pilgrimage” to real-life locations also became a hot topic, didn’t it?
Here, we’ll introduce plenty of the songs performed in the openings, endings, and within the show of K-On!.
Listening to them again after a while got me super hyped!
[K-On!] After-School Tea Time Songs (1–10)
I can’t get enough of strawberry parfaits.Hōkago Tī Taimu

This is the opening track of After-School Tea Time’s first full album, “After-School Tea Time II.” The lyrics cutely express the honest feelings of a high school girl who loves sweets, and the crisp, girls’ pop sound is just adorable.
The guitar-and-organ ensemble gives it a classic Group Sounds vibe, and it seems like it would be a lot of fun to cover with a band.
Fluffy TimeHōkago Tī Taimu

Released under the name Sakuragaoka High School Light Music Club as an in-anime theme single from K-On!.
The main vocal is Mio Akiyama, but on the mini-album “Houkago Tea Time,” Yui Hirasawa takes the lead vocal, so it’s fun to compare the two versions.
Incidentally, in the show, it’s set up so that Mio sings as a stand-in because Yui has strained her voice, but there’s actually a version with Yui’s hoarse vocals that was put on CD as a campaign prize.
GO! GO! MANIACHōkago Tī Taimu

The opening theme of K-On! season 2, “GO! GO! MANIAC.” Its poppy, bright sound is uplifting to listen to.
The song showcases performance skills that seem almost unbelievable for high school students, and the cuteness of the vocals is striking.
It captures the sparkling everyday atmosphere of high school girls.
Listen!!Hōkago Tī Taimu

A single in which Yoko Hikasa, who plays Mio Akiyama, serves as the lead vocalist—Afterschool Tea Time’s fifth overall.
It’s the first ending theme of K-On!! Season 2.
From the intro, it opens with an organ riff, and the organ’s timbre is prominently featured throughout, which really defines the track.
The progression from the organ solo into the guitar solo is nothing short of downright cool.
If you love organ used in rock, this song is irresistible.
NO, Thank You!Hōkago Tī Taimu

This is the second season’s latter-ending theme song from K-On!!, and the eighth single released under the name “Houkago Tea Time.” The main vocals are by Yoko Hikasa, who plays Mio Akiyama, and her voice fits perfectly with the strong, girl-power image and cool melody.
With its hard-driving guitars, danceable rhythm, and a band ensemble that knows when to push and pull, it’s a cool track that’s guaranteed to hype up the crowd if you play it at a school festival!
U&IHōkago Tī Taimu

Released under the name Ho-kago Tea Time, this song is their ninth overall double A-side single.
In the show, it is performed in episode 20 of K-On!! season 2.
Although the lyrics for Ho-kago Tea Time’s songs are usually written by Mio Akiyama, for this song Yui Hirasawa wrote the lyrics.
You can tell just by listening: it’s a song Yui sings about her younger sister, Ui.
Yui’s unusually gentle singing voice—quite different from her usually bubbly character—is wonderful.
For those who understand the relationship between the two, this could be considered a hidden gem that’s sure to move you to tears.
Utauyo!!MIRACLEHōkago Tī Taimu

Aki Toyosaki, who plays Yui Hirasawa, handles the lead vocals on this track, which serves as the second cour opening theme for K-ON!! and the seventh single released by Ho-kago Tea Time.
With lyrics and melody perfectly suited to Yui’s character, it’s a pop number where a surging groove and sparkling band sound blend seamlessly.
It’s not a straightforward, linear 8-beat either, so if you actually try to cover it, it’ll be quite challenging!
