To help promote the city as a tourist destination, “Tendo Yunomachi Kouta” was created.
Gero KoutaMatsushiro, Kotarō

The shamisen played by geisha in a hot spring town really has a charming atmosphere, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, the okiya with geisha who performed like this was dissolved in 2010.
Gero Onsen in Gifu Prefecture is said to be one of Japan’s three most famous hot springs, but what’s nice about the kouta songs is that, rather than talking about medicinal benefits and such, they sing about everyday life—like couples getting along well, or being raised soaking in hot springs from birth.

There are seven public baths, and overnight guests can use them for free—a delight for hot spring enthusiasts.
However, the lyrics are heavy and heartrending.

Sumatakyo in Shizuoka Prefecture is a scenic hot spring resort selected as one of the “100 Natural Sites of Japan to Preserve into the 21st Century.” Despite being regarded as a remote hidden gem, the Oigawa Railway—where steam locomotives still run—is famous.
Okuii Lake Station, which is located on a lake and has an average of just one passenger per day, has been featured on television several times.
This is a song about that hot spring area.

He’s playfully tossing around words with good rhythm and winning over the girls’ hearts.
The lyrics make you think, “It’s cute, or more like, ‘W-what should I do?’”
