Songs whose titles start with 'I'. Masterpieces that begin with 'I'.

I’m going to introduce songs with titles that start with “i” (the Japanese syllable pronounced ee)!

When you think of “i,” words like ichigo (strawberry), iruka (dolphin), and iro (color) come to mind, so it’s not a particularly tricky letter even in shiritori, right?

But what about when it comes to song titles?

Actually, there are plenty of songs whose titles start with “i”!

In this article, I’ve gathered a variety of Japanese songs—both old and new—whose titles begin with “i.”

You might even find some you listen to regularly.

Feel free to use this as a reference when playing song-title shiritori and the like!

INORI (Extended Mix)Sakanakushon

It’s a cool track where minimal beats and hypnotic, repeating synths draw the listener into deep immersion.

This is the extended version included on the INORI EP, which Sakanaction co-produced with electronic musician AOKI takamasa and released on vinyl in June 2013.

They reconstructed the original song from the March 2013 album sakanaction to enhance its functionality as club music, showcasing an experimental approach that transcends the boundaries of band sound.

It’s perfect for moments when you want to surrender to the pure pleasure of sound rather than words, or as late-night highway driving BGM.

It has an addictive quality that makes you want to keep listening.

This work, written and composed by KREVA, a leading figure in the hip-hop scene, conveys a powerful statement of intent.

Featuring a heavy sound with Japanese elements, it serves as the title track of the album “Made in,” released in June 2022.

The choreography by RIEHATA also drew attention, and dance videos went viral on platforms like TikTok.

It was performed at the 2022 NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen, and many people likely still remember that spectacular stage.

Although the song has a lot of rap and its rhythm can be a bit challenging, it’s perfect for energizing the crowd at karaoke.

If you want to sing one of the group’s cool, hard-hitting tracks, definitely give it a try.

Say it.Yorushika

Yorushika is a duo that captivates many listeners with emotionally stirring storytelling and literary lyrics.

This early-career work that supported their rise is a bittersweet number set to a brisk guitar-rock sound, depicting the regret of words left unsaid.

In contrast to its exhilarating melody, the lyrics unfold a heart-wrenching world, where n-buna’s delicate sensibilities and suis’s dignified vocals blend exquisitely.

Included on their first mini-album, “Natsukusa ga Jama o Suru,” released in June 2017, it has remained a beloved classic over the years, with its music video surpassing 100 million views.

It’s an emotional track you’ll want to listen to when you’re carrying unspoken feelings or sinking into a sentimental mood at night.

Naughty SunYAMATO(ORANGE RANGE)

ORANGE RANGE – Ikenai Taiyou / THE FIRST TAKE
Naughty SunYAMATO(ORANGE RANGE)

ORANGE RANGE is a five-member rock band from Okinawa with the unusual setup of three vocalists, and YAMATO is one of them.

In terms of vocal parts, he handles the high register and often sings the main melody, while also covering both upper and lower harmonies—a very busy role.

Thanks to many years of touring, his live performance stands out for not rushing, not wavering, and never wearing out.

I’m the same way, but if you like harmonizing, you’ll probably want to sing YAMATO’s parts.

If you watch the THE FIRST TAKE videos with the backing track muted, you can really feel how much he does and how stable his voice is.

No matter what he sings, his pitch never wavers and he nails it, which makes him truly pleasant to listen to.

He’s mastered a wide range of genres, so definitely check out their music from their debut onward!

Heretical StarOfisharu Higedan Dism

Included on Official HIGE DANDism’s mini-album “Report,” released in April 2017, this song is a passionate anthem for those who feel they might lose their true selves by worrying about others’ eyes and judgments.

Set to a driving piano-rock sound, it powerfully extols the value of staying true to your convictions without being bound by convention or criticism.

The lyrics carry a message of shining in your own way rather than conforming to others, offering strong encouragement to anyone about to take on the unknown.

Choosing this song for a farewell party karaoke could uplift the entire venue, serving as the perfect cheer for friends setting off on a new path with both anxiety and anticipation.

Hated by LifeKanzaki Iori

Known as a “dark” song, ‘Inochi ni Kirawarete Iru’ is famous.

Mafumafu has a well-known cover, and Kanzaki Iori also sings it himself.

The pitch gap between the A and B verses and the chorus is extreme, so be careful not to strain.

If chest voice is difficult when singing, don’t push it—use falsetto skillfully.

The overall vocal range is C3–A4, and because each melodic section occupies a clearly defined range, it’s easier to anticipate pitches and lock in.

Keep your eyebrows raised, stay primed to project, and before singing, visualize the notes—raise your hand to help you find the pitch, then sing!

A powerhouse singer, Jung Tae-ho, was born in Seoul, South Korea, and came to Japan in 2006 after performing with a dance group.

His tenth single is Itoshisa de Boroboro.

Continuing the love story that began with his earlier releases Cold Rain and Silver Rosary, this song poignantly conveys the pain of unrequited love.

Created by his familiar team—lyricist Madoka-no and composer Hiroshi Tokuhisa—this work showcases his sweet, melancholic voice, beautifully expressing a heart torn between lingering attachment and passion.
