[For Seniors] Snowman crafts to brighten January wall displays: fun ideas using origami, paper plates, and paper-cut art (11–20)
Snowman made from plastic bottle caps
Let’s collect plastic bottle caps and make a snowman wall decoration! Bring bottle caps, then wrap each one with paper or tape while deciding where it will go.
Draw a snowman outline on a backing sheet, and place the caps—coated with double-sided tape or glue—along the outline to complete your snowman art! There’s nothing difficult about the process, so it’s recommended even for older adults who find fine motor tasks challenging.
It’s a collaborative project everyone can enjoy, helping deepen connections among facility participants.
Stained glass of a snowman
A collaboration between stained glass and snowmen! Even though it looks like stained glass, it’s all made with paper, so it’s great as a simple craft for seniors.
Cut construction paper into a stained-glass-style frame, then make a snowman that fits inside it.
Place the frame on top of a sheet of parchment paper and cover it with OPP tape from above.
Flip it over and stick the snowman onto the adhesive side.
Finally, attach colorful transparent origami or translucent tissue paper around the snowman, and you’ll have a wall decoration that looks just like stained glass!
Fluffy snowman

Let’s make a fluffy cotton snowman with a fun, soft texture! Cut a white sheet of construction paper into a strip and glue a vertical strip for the hat in the center.
Apply double-sided tape, attach cotton batting while leaving the edges free, then roll it up and secure it; roll and secure the hat part as well.
Make the body parts the same way with white paper, and staple the two rings together to form a snowman.
Finally, use chenille stems and beads as you like to add eyes, mouth, hands, and more, and you’re done! You can also tint the cotton or arrange snowmen in various sizes for a cute display.
paper cutting

This is a very cute cut-paper wall decoration featuring a chain of snowmen! All you need is origami paper, a pen, scissors, and a single-hole punch.
Fold the origami paper into a triangle, then fold the two corner tips upward at an angle to make a tri-fold triangle.
Fold that in half, and then draw a snowman design on the paper.
Using scissors and the hole punch, carefully cut out the details, and gently unfold it to reveal your piece! If you have experience with paper cutting or enjoy detailed crafts, please try making it together with us.
Paper-cut snowman card

Just cut and paste! Let’s make a snowman with paper cutouts.
Prepare a sheet of colored construction paper and a white sheet that’s half its size.
Draw your cutout design on the white paper.
Once the design is ready, carefully cut it out with scissors.
You’ll use both the part you cut out and the remaining sheet, so be sure to keep both pieces.
After cutting, paste the pieces you just made onto the colored paper so they form a symmetrical design.
It’s great to follow the video and make the same thing, but you can also use your own original design as long as it looks natural when mirrored.
Enjoy making paper cutouts together with older adults!
Papercraft Snowman

This is a recommended craft for seniors who love snow.
January, right in the middle of winter as we welcome the New Year, brings snowy scenery to some regions.
A papercraft snowman brightens up a room as a cute decoration and lifts your spirits.
One method for making it features a three-dimensional structure: cut out identical shapes from construction paper, fold them, and glue together 16 layers.
Once you start, you might get so absorbed that you lose track of time.
Even in places without snow, you can enjoy a cozy winter atmosphere.
Make plenty and have fun arranging them—hang them on the wall or turn them into a garland.

Shakashaka Snowman with Hanshi Paper
Just crumple paper and pack it into a bag! This is a rattle-rattle snowman you can make easily without any tools.
Crumple some washi paper into balls, stuff them into a plastic bag, shape it into a round form, and seal the bag.
Make smaller parts for the face and connect them using masking tape or similar.
Put on a paper-cup “hat” made from origami, and finish by adding eyes and a mouth with stickers or origami! You can use any kind of paper—like tissues—as long as it’s gentle on the hands when crumpling.
Why not enjoy making snowmen with seniors while savoring the fun, tactile feeling of crumpling paper?
