Masterpieces by a Japanese pop duo artist

We bring you songs packed with the charm of Japanese music duos.

Bands and solo singers each have their appeal, but two-person duos are captivating in their own way.

What makes duos special is that, beyond simply layering sounds, their tight-knit expressiveness and shared emotions truly reach the listener.

When two voices blend, the music gains richness; the harmonies in the chorus feel great and leave listeners with a refreshing sensation.

This time, we’ve picked out classic tracks from Japanese duo artists.

From nationally beloved pairs to more niche acts, there’s a wide range here—give them a listen.

Masterpieces by Japanese pop duo artists (1–10)

budKobukuro

A classic song by Kobukuro, a musical duo from Osaka Prefecture formed in 1998, included on their 2007 album “5296.” It was selected as the theme song for the drama “Tokyo Tower: Mom and Me, and Sometimes Dad,” and was written specifically for the series.

The duo’s ensemble performance over a slow-tempo, lyrical melody makes for a superb number.

Back To ZeroIzumii

I think Izumii’s new song portrays relationships in the digital age.

It’s striking how the theme of destruction and rebirth is expressed through such a distinctive sound! I believe it will also give listeners a good opportunity to reflect on contemporary society.

Released in December 2024, this track is the first collaboration with a New York label.

The music video for this release is wonderful too, so be sure to check it out.

I recommend listening when you’re tired from daily life or when you want to take a new step forward!

Forgotten Snowkatawara

katawara – Forgotten Snow (Music Video)
Forgotten Snowkatawara

A new song has arrived that conveys the chill of winter while delivering warmth to the heart.

This work from katawara centers on the harshness of winter and the loneliness of parting.

The delicate harmonies of the male–female twin vocals seep into the listener’s heart.

Released in December 2024, the track showcases their growth.

The gentle tones born from the harmony of piano and guitar are particularly striking.

It’s best enjoyed on a winter night, gazing out the window.

While cherishing past memories, you’ll feel a sense of hope for the future—an experience sure to warm your heart.

I’ll wait.amin

This is the signature song of Amin, a musical duo from Nagoya formed in 1982, included on their 1983 album “P.S.

Anata e…”.

The song won the Grand Prix at the 23rd Yamaha Popular Song Contest.

The harmony between Takako Okamura’s beautiful lead vocals and Haruko Kato’s rich lower part is outstanding.

hometownnikoichi

Nikoichi is an acoustic duo formed in Hyogo Prefecture in 2007.

The two members both come from a local baseball team.

They’re known for their strong love for their hometown, having sung the theme song for a film set on Awaji Island in Hyogo and held a solo concert at Kobe International House.

Their songs feature beautifully blended harmonies, weaving together two distinct voices to deliver dramatic melodies.

Listening to this ballad “Furusato” with that background in mind offers a whole new perspective.

Bridge of Gloryyuzu

Eikou no Kakehashi – Yuzu (Full)
Bridge of Gloryyuzu

Yuzu is a male duo often regarded as pioneers of the second street live performance movement that began in 1997.

At the time of their debut, they mainly released folk-oriented songs, but once they started attracting public attention, they shifted toward catchy pop music.

Their classic hit Eikou no Kakehashi (Bridge of Glory) was chosen as the official theme song for the Athens Olympics thanks to its catchiness.

It remains one of their best-known songs to this day.

If you’d like to hear it again, be sure to check it out!

AliensKirinji

[Official] KIRINJI “Aliens” (MV) [4K Remaster] KIRINJI / Aliens (6th Single)
AliensKirinji

A signature song by the Japanese duo Kirinji, it’s a moving piece whose simple, heartwarming character rides on a beautiful melody and chord progression.

Beyond the beauty of the harmonies and lyrics, the tasteful performances by each instrument—never intruding on the vocals yet expanding the song’s breadth—are also highlights.

A gem of a masterpiece that listeners of any generation should hear.
