Formed in 2022 around vocalist/guitarist Nachi, born in 2002, Sabasister is a girls’ trio drawing attention at home and abroad, having even landed a slot at SUMMER SONIC that same year.

Nachi’s lyrics capture everyday moments in a way anyone can relate to, but their perspective differs from typical bittersweet love songs or radiant youth anthems, giving them a distinctive, intriguing personality.

The song “Jersey” introduced here may seem at first like a breakup tune using a jersey as a motif, but it actually came from Nachi’s experience of having a green jersey she was about to buy on Mercari snatched by someone else.

The simple, punkish sound, cute vocals with harmonies, and irresistibly catchy melodies are utterly charming—it’s easy to see why they drew early attention.

If you’re looking for up-and-coming girl bands, this is one to check out now!

See ya,yayuyo

Formed in 2019, Yayuyo is a girls’ band from Osaka that drew attention after signing with the label TALTO, home to popular bands like SUPER BEAVER, sumika, and Macaroni Empitsu.

In August 2023, their drummer Su-chan unfortunately left the band, and they have since continued their activities with a support drummer.

When they formed, the members were university students, and their music is characterized by melodies and sounds reminiscent of the late ’90s to early 2000s—nostalgic for those who know that era and refreshingly new to younger fans.

“Abayo,” which opens their debut full-length album “Hibi Ranman” released in 2022, is a masterpiece featuring a wistful, lyrical melody woven over a waltz rhythm and a wonderfully dramatic song structure.

The lyrics are also excellent, showing subtle shifts in emotion even as the singer hurls parting words at an ex—definitely worth checking out.

A Tokyo-based girl band formed in July 2014.

Their lyrics, known for a distinctive worldview, have received high praise, and in 2016 they performed overseas and took part in ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION’s tribute album—making them a band that has drawn significant attention.

Their song “Rickenbacker,” which helped put them on the map, is a rock number that carries a poignant, resonant message depicting the relationship between music and people.

Listen for the interplay between the driving, fast-paced band performance and the cute, charming vocals.

Gravity zero-gravityShonen Naifu

This rising, climbing sound has an indescribably pleasant feel.

Shonen Knife, loved by Kurt Cobain of NIRVANA, is a proud girls’ rock band.

It’s simple, yet you can feel their love for pure punk.

It’s a song that makes you sense the refreshing bond of friendship.

Foam of the Daysshiroi asa ni saku

The predecessor band, Chimegane, was formed in 2012 by high school classmates in Tokushima Prefecture.

In September 2015, they changed their name from Chimegane to Shiroi Asa ni Saku and have been active under that name.

It’s a rock track featuring a clear, transparent vocal floating over an arrangement with the depth of UK rock.

I won't forget it.kessoku bando

Despite being a fictional band born from an anime, Kessoku Band has become hugely popular, drawing in both Japanese and Western rock listeners.

Based on a hit manga and adapted into a TV anime in 2022, Bocchi the Rock! instantly won over not only anime fans but also music lovers, as mentioned earlier.

Framed as the debut album by Kessoku Band as they appear in the show, the self-titled album released in 2022 became an extraordinary hit and a major talking point.

From among Kessoku Band’s tracks, this piece will introduce “I Won’t Forget.” It’s an undisputed killer tune, performed first during the cultural festival scene in episode 12 of the anime.

It works perfectly as a cute slice of girls’ rock, and the restless, roaming guitar lines brilliantly capture Kessoku Band’s signature feel.

Be sure to pay attention to the lyrics as well: they explore complicated feelings about youth without getting too heavy, yet without tipping too far into positivity—striking a finely balanced tone.
