Suite ”→Pia-no-jaC←

This piece is fascinating for the whimsical waves of sound unleashed by an unusual duo of piano and percussion.

The shouts that come in partway through lift the listener’s spirits, and I think anyone about to give something their all or looking to fully enjoy whatever they’re doing will be able to arrive with high energy if they listen to it on the way.

Lupin the Third Theme ’78 – Yuji Ohno
Lupin the Third Theme '78Ōno Yūji

A piece composed by Yuji Ohno, a man who could be said to have devoted his life to the TV anime Lupin the Third.

While it has a hard-boiled feel, its up-tempo drive perfectly captures the dynamism of Lupin the Third, in my opinion.

SkyH ZETTRIO

This piece, performed by H ZETTRIO—a unit led by keyboardist H ZETT M—evokes the many expressions of the sky and a refreshing atmosphere.

The strongly resonant bass is a major feature of the track, conveying a powerful image and even a sense of the vigor of fresh greenery.

With a solid rhythm that expresses overall strength, paired with a light, companionable piano that suggests an expansive world, it leaves a striking impression.

The sound, which blends the power and lightness characteristic of jazz, conveys warmth and exhilaration.

THE TRICKSTERKAGERO

THE TRICKSTERKAGERO

An unconventional four-piece instrumental band that fuses hardcore and jazz.

Despite their unorthodox style, their sheer musicianship is staggering.

Sax and piano dance wildly to a bass sound that’s both punchy and twisted, while the drumming, fired off as if enclosing the three, delivers a raw, real sound you can only find here and now in Japan.

SPICAROVO

ROVO / SPICA (PV EDIT, 2002)
SPICAROVO

As an instrumental band, they’ve reached a level that could be called legendary.

The music video for Phoenix Rising, inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s manga Phoenix, had a wonderful worldview, and their signature track SPICA is also a truly one-of-a-kind song.

A three-piece jazz trio that delves into the club-jazz genre.

Despite the simple setup of piano, upright bass, and drums, their skill shines in the way they brilliantly transform everything from standards to vocal numbers into instrumental pieces.

Each member’s richly imaginative tone gives rise to expressive depth.
