This is Tomohiro Higashida, a singer-songwriter who made his major debut in 2003.

If anything, his music has strong Southern rock-flavored elements reminiscent of Bob Dylan and Neil Young, but you can also hear a surf music vibe that aligns with Jack Johnson.

Riding a wave of soaring popularity, they’re absolutely going to break in 2017! It’s their sound, their comfortable melodies, the fun vibe, and above all the voice of vocalist Yuma Abe.

Yuma Abe’s voice—low, retro, with a Showa-era feel yet stylish—makes you want to listen while sipping coffee.

When I first heard them, I thought, “How did I not know this band?!” and binge-listened to everything.

Akarui Mirai draws you in more and more with its brisk melody.

And it seems Yuma Abe’s older brother is the actor Issey Takahashi.

Definitely give their melodies and vocals a listen.

Life is Tripykeison

It’s not just his rugged, dashing looks—his gentle melodies and low, raspy, cool voice in his acoustic performances give me chills.

Listening to him when I’m working or tired is soothing.

He’s based around Shizuoka, and I once heard him perform a Japanese cover of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” live; it moved me deeply.

I fell in love with his voice and charm, which even surpassed the original for me.

With a guitar and surfboard in hand, he performs live not only across Japan but around the world—in Taiwan, Australia, Hawaii, Bali, Spain, Africa, and more.

His voice resonates globally and is utterly captivating.

When it comes to surf music in Japanese pop, it has to be Southern All Stars.

Their song “Manatsu no Kajitsu” (Midnight Summer Fruit) was released in July 1990 as their 28th single and won the Rock Gold Disc Award at the Japan Record Awards.

The video is a cover by Goose house.
