This is a super-funky sound released by the internationally renowned Tatsuya Oe under his Captain Funk moniker.

These irresistibly danceable, funky tracks are still used on TV and in clubs today.

Lum’n’BassSaikeautsu

A pioneer of Japan’s drum and bass scene who incorporated dubstep and jungle, their live performance at Fuji Rock is the stuff of legend.

By quickly sampling audio from anime and TV dramas, they also had a major influence on nerdcore.

A unit consisting of DJ WADA and Heigo Tani.

They established their own brand of breakbeats that weaves in big beat and drum’n’bass.

Their twisting, electrifying sound will send shivers through your body.

It’s a track that pulls you into a unique, unprecedented sonic world.

While Dr.

SHINGO is a shape-shifting artist who can evoke a dazzling world in some tracks and a dark, weighty atmosphere in others, Galaxy Girls is a comical and pop-inflected piece that feels like freely zipping around the cosmos.

OK SamplerRYUKYUDISKO

A techno unit formed by twin brothers Satoshi and Yosuke Hiroyama from Okinawa delivers a fresh, innovative sound.

The fusion of Ryukyuan music and techno is lively and rhythmic enough to make your body move on its own.

The “OK” in the title is said to stand for Okinawa.

Joe Inoue’s vocals are also a highlight.

Garden On The PalmKen Ishii

A techno musician known as the Techno God of the East.

In 1993, a demo tape he produced while still a student was picked up by a Belgian techno label.

Although he was completely unknown in Japan, his subsequent release Garden On The Palm reached No.

1 on the techno chart of the British music magazine NME.

MAGIC DOMEsawasaki yoshihiro

These are ambient sounds released by Yoshihiro Sawasaki—now known as a hot-spring enthusiast—that were strongly influenced by German progressive rock in his early debut period.

They evoke a mysterious sensation, as if you’re drifting in outer space.
