Riddles for middle school students (1–10)
Funny Riddles

If you used to do classic riddles in elementary school, you might already know the answer, but this one is a pretty straightforward, not-too-twisty riddle: “What food does Dad hate?” If you write it out in katakana as is, it turns into a certain fruit…
High-level riddle

There are many riddles like “What sushi toppings are inside the shop?” that even adults can’t answer right away.
It’s not so much that the questions are difficult, but that shifting your perspective is hard.
They’re riddles similar to brain-training puzzles, and middle schoolers—with their still-flexible minds—might be able to solve them.
Brain-teasing riddles!

Unlike typical riddles, the riddles in this video are all about thinking outside the box.
It’s important to shift your perspective a bit from the world described in the text or not take the words at face value.
For “How do you catch five crows perched on a power line all at once?”, I couldn’t help but mutter, “Oh, that way!”
Interesting and tricky riddles

The puzzles in this video are very challenging riddles.
Even when you’re given the answers, there’s a momentary pause before you understand them—you’ll find yourself working hard just to keep up.
Solving these on your own is sure to be satisfying.
They’re perfect for anyone looking for fun, difficult riddles.
Advanced riddles

Ordinary riddles aren’t enough to satisfy a middle schooler’s way of thinking.
By putting in a little extra effort—like squeezing out some clever ideas, adding a twist of wit, or looking for ones that verge on puns—you can enjoy them much more.
Go ahead and try some advanced-level riddles!
What can go anywhere but doesn’t move?
Do many kids love traveling? Just going somewhere different from usual makes you feel excited, doesn’t it? So let’s try this riddle: “What can go anywhere but doesn’t move?” When you think of going anywhere, vehicles like cars, bicycles, and trains come to mind, but they all move, right? So those aren’t the answer.
If you think about something that makes you feel like you’ve gone somewhere without actually going, you might reach the answer.
The correct answer is “a map.” On a map, you can go to various countries, but the map itself doesn’t move.
What animal gets lighter when you flip it over?
An animal that gets lighter when flipped over… Just imagining various animals flipping over makes you feel warm and fuzzy, doesn’t it? But no matter how many real animals you flip, you won’t reach the answer! And since there are so many animals, guessing at random won’t help much either.
The key to solving this riddle is to focus on the crucial word “karui” (軽い), meaning “light.”
When written in katakana, it’s “カルイ” (karui).
If you flip it—i.e., read it backward—it becomes “イルカ” (iruka), which means “dolphin.” So the answer is “dolphin.”
A problem adults can’t solve!

As the title suggests, there are many problems that stiff-minded adults will have a hard time arriving at the answers to.
Once you see the answers, you go, “Ah, I see!” If you can be convinced, it means the problems aren’t difficult.
They hinge on whether you can come up with the idea or not.
Proverb Quiz

It’s a quiz about proverbs.
Some of the proverbs may be ones that junior high school students are currently learning.
This video also provides hints, so it should be easy to understand.
It seems useful for reviewing proverbs as well, so why not try it as a casual quiz?
If you can solve it without being tricked, that’s awesome!

This video contains many very interesting problems.
If you’ve just started junior high school, it might still be difficult to read and understand the questions, but if you’re a junior high student who isn’t yet constrained by common-sense assumptions, you might be able to solve them without being tricked.
