Fun games for kids in Kansai: Recreation games (31–40)
Rhythm 4
It’s a recreational game that moves along rhythmically as players say names and numbers.
The rules can be a bit hard to remember at first, but once you get them down, everyone can have fun playing together.
Since a sense of rhythm is important, the key point is that it’s a game that can improve both rhythmic ability and quick reflexes at the same time.
The National Museum of Art, Osaka
The National Museum of Art, Osaka opened in 1977 and has a long history.
From the entrance, it exudes a distinctly artistic atmosphere.
The museum regularly hosts many events for children.
Since there are capacity limits, be sure to apply early for any events that interest you.

When we were little, my siblings and I, and our friends, would go behind the shoji screens to make shadow pictures and compete to guess what each of us was trying to create.
Playing with shadow puppets made with our fingers and heads was actually pretty difficult, but the joy of making a good shadow picture was huge.
It’s a game that really nurtures the imagination.

It’s a recreation game where you sing two different songs alternately, one phrase at a time, and they gradually start to blend together.
It’s amusing to see how the tunes converge when you alternate songs with similar melodies.
It’s also fun to watch people raise their voices as they try to somehow keep their own song going.

This is a recreational game where you connect things by color, which gained popularity after being shown on TV.
As long as you know the colors, anyone can join, and its simple, rhythm-based gameplay is sure to be addictive.
It also tests quick reactions, making it a great option for breaks and free time.
Ogre Pants
It’s a recreational game where you sing and dance to Oni no Pantsu, a song everyone knows.
By linking the song with movement, the sense of fun takes priority.
And the more into it you get, the more enjoyable it becomes, helping you open up to friends even after it’s over.
The planetarium at the Osaka Science Museum
Stars are projected onto the planetarium hall’s dome, and it introduces the seasonal night sky and stories about the universe.
The starry sky looks just like the real thing.
Because it’s a planetarium, arrows can be projected onto the sky, making the explanations easy to follow.
There are pleasures you can’t experience with the real night sky.
The Osaka Science Museum also has exhibits, and you can spend a whole day just enjoying the exhibits alone.
Hirakata Park
If you’re from Kansai, this is an amusement park you’ll want to visit at least once.
It’s affectionately known as “Hirapa.” One of Hirapa’s attractions is the wooden coaster “Elf.” As the name suggests, it’s a rare wooden roller coaster and highly recommended.
(They have regular steel coasters too.)
Kids Plaza Osaka
It’s a museum for children.
There are exhibits and workshops.
While it’s aimed at kids, adults will enjoy it too.
The space is quite large, so you might not be able to see everything in a single day.
Experiments and hands-on activities spark all kinds of curiosity.

It’s a recreation game where you tap shoulders to the rhythm of “The Tortoise and the Hare.” Instead of clapping hands, you tap shoulders, which increases physical activity.
You also keep switching the tapping hand and the shoulder being tapped—like right hand to left shoulder, left hand to right shoulder—so it’s a game that trains concentration.
