Childcare: Recommended program ideas for a sports day

Sports day at nursery and kindergarten is something to look forward to.

Creating the program is fun, but sometimes it’s hard to come up with ideas.

Beyond the entrance, exit, and warm-up exercises, it’s also important to plan a variety of events.

Here, we’ve gathered ideas for a sports day that kids can enjoy.

Consider activities like relays, obstacle courses, and dances that match the children’s ages.

Create a program that teachers and children can enjoy together, and make it a wonderful sports day where everyone smiles!

Snack-Grab Race

Snack-getting race (using bread-hanging strings)
Snack-Grab Race

An arranged version of the bread-eating race! Here’s an idea for a Snack-Grab Race.

It’s a perfect, exciting activity for a sports day with five-year-olds.

The rule is that participants must get a treat hanging from a string without using their hands—by jumping and using their bodies.

Through the competition, children can enjoy themselves while nurturing a spirit of challenge.

Individual results matter, but since everyone can cheer each other on and have fun together, it will become a memorable event.

Balloon Carry Relay

We held a “Balloon Carry Relay,” fostering the ability to cooperate with friends and encouraging a consultative, collaborative attitude. The children called out to one another and worked together while matching their timing. Here’s a fun balloon-carrying relay where you work together with a friend.

Form pairs, hold a balloon between two paper cups so it doesn’t fall, and carry it to the goal—simple and enjoyable! If your strength and speed aren’t in sync, the balloon may drop along the way and you might not make it to the goal, so communicate with each other and aim for the finish.

If you drop the balloon, start again from where it fell.

Make sure you have plenty of space and be careful not to bump into friends.

Doing it in teams is also recommended.

Ring Relay

⭐️Exciting⭐️ 🌈Ring Relay🌈 We’ll split into two teams and do a relay‼️ I think you’ll understand the rules once you watch the video☝️✨ Let’s do it while thinking with your friends about how to get to the finish faster❣️ After explaining the rules, we’ll give you practice time again, and then it’s the real run‼️ It’s more fun than just training 😀 And because it’s done as a team, everyone takes it more seriously than usual 🎵 We’re sharing fun games like this 🗽 Please follow us 🙇‍♀️relayteamRecreationCooperationFriendshipKids Challenge ClubExercise Play ClassFukuoka City#Momochi Gymnasium <h id=”10″>弥生幼稚園</h>︎

Battle Theme / Dragon Quest III – Me Gāne

Here are two ideas for ring relay games.

What you need to prepare are markers for the start and finish lines.

In the first game, each person crawls under the feet of the person in front, then quickly stands up and spreads their legs to form a tunnel, connecting all the way to the finish.

In the second game, players form pairs to make a ring, and the next person in line crawls through as they all move toward the finish.

The key point is that neither game can be completed by a single person.

It’s also fun to compete by team!

Popular anime characters join the sports day events! These are fun sports day games that even small children can enjoy while playing.

First, in a footrace, choose a character face—like Anpan, Shokupan, or Melonpan—placed in the field.

Once you’ve picked a face, look for the house that has the same picture as the face you’re holding.

When you find the matching house, throw the face you’re holding through the window to clear the game.

You can, of course, use non-anime characters for the event as well.

Let’s complete the puzzle together as a parent and child

Shota’s Sports Day 2021: “Let’s complete a puzzle together, parent and child.”
Let's complete the puzzle together as a parent and child

Work together with a partner to complete a giant puzzle.

This is a sports day event idea where you collaborate with parents or teachers to fit in one panel at a time, and when you finish assembling the large puzzle, you clear the game.

Teams are divided and complete the puzzle in a relay format.

Adults and children cooperate, think about where to place the panel they’re holding, then pass the baton to the next person.

The team that finishes the puzzle first wins.

For panels placed high up, have an adult lift the child so they can stick it on.

We can’t wait to see what picture appears at the end!

4-person 1-leg relay

Sports Day, elementary school, relay race, White Team
4-person 1-leg relay

This is an obstacle race recommended as a competition for parents, designed to be tackled in teams.

Parents form groups of four and work together to complete various missions.

After one lap of the course, they pass the baton to the next group of four.

You can customize the obstacles and missions set up on the course in many ways, and since it’s done in teams of four, it also serves as a great opportunity for parents to connect with one another.

Try incorporating it while exploring different variations.

Here’s a simple, pretend tamaire (ball-toss) game that little kids can enjoy indoors.

Prepare a basket and some soft balls.

Attach the basket to a sturdy post or pillar.

The key is to set it at a height the children can reach.

Have the kids throw the balls toward the basket.

Since it can be played indoors, it’s also great for rainy days when the weather is bad.

Try playing it with children who want to imitate the older kids doing tamaire.
