Classic events are fun, but here we’ll introduce some unique, slightly unusual ones!

With quirky movements and creative ideas, kids can enjoy practicing even more.

You’ll also see more moments that bring spontaneous smiles to parents watching.

If you mix these events in between the standard ones, the whole sports day becomes even more entertaining.

By all means, create a sports day that leaves the children saying, “That was so much fun!”

[Childcare] Unique event ideas for a sports day that we want to try (101–110)

parachute ball

Parachute activities using large, colorful fabric are a popular event at sports festivals.

With a parachute, several people hold the cloth and perform moves like creating a dome, a merry-go-round, or fireworks by inflating and shaping it.

Each person uses their whole body to raise and lower the fabric or move it sideways, making teamwork the key.

It’s also recommended to have a representative blow a whistle to give instructions and synchronize timing so everyone can move together.

Parachute play offers a valuable experience of working together to create something as a team, and it may help foster both self-confidence and empathy for others.

[Parent-Child Event] Card Flipping

At the Fukui City nursery school sports day, parent-child event: Card Flip! Try this popular game together at the sports day!
[Parent-Child Event] Card Flipping

Flip scattered cards over to change them to your team’s color in this card-flipping game.

Because two teams play at the same time, cards you flip might get flipped back, so you won’t know who’s winning until the final whistle—it’s a thrilling, exciting event.

For older kindergarteners, children can play on their own.

For younger children, it’s recommended that they hold a guardian’s hand and flip cards together.

Be careful not to bump into others flipping nearby, and try to turn as many cards as you can to your team’s color!

Operation Hide-and-Seek

Seirenji Sports Day on October 6, 2018 – Junior Parent-Child Event: The Great Hide-and-Seek Mission
Operation Hide-and-Seek

This is a cute parent-child hide-and-seek event, recommended even for younger children such as those in the nursery class.

For this event, please have all the children wear the same outfit, such as gym clothes or smocks.

The children hold a cloak made from newspaper and hide inside it.

At the start, the guardians face away and cover their eyes, and at the signal of “Ready!” they all begin searching for their own child.

Since everyone looks similar, finding your child is surprisingly difficult.

Divide into teams, such as White Team and Red Team, and compete to see which team can find their children faster and have the parent and child sit down together first.

Soran Bushi

Soran Bushi

Soran Bushi is popular with both children and adults for its powerful, heroic, and crisply disciplined movements, which are also a hallmark of Japanese tradition.

The graceful motions of the hands and arms that depict waves, along with the dynamic, forceful gestures that portray bold fishermen, create a beautiful contrast between stillness and motion.

Highlights include children running around the schoolyard with big “bountiful catch” flags and everyone shouting out the calls together.

Their earnest dedication to the performance is both endearing and strong.

It’s a piece that moves parents to the core as they witness each child’s growth.

In conclusion

We introduced some unique events you can include in a sports day.

Each one has its own special features, so it’s sure to bring smiles to both the children and the parents watching! A sports day is one of the highlights of kindergarten life.

To make it even more fun, why not add a few unconventional events to the program?
