felt

If you want to emphasize texture, why not try using felt? Felt is a fabric made by gathering animal hair, and it can surprisingly look fur-like.
In recent years, felt fabric with tiger patterns has also been available.
Another feature is that felt is inexpensive, making it ideal for producing many pieces or crafting small accessories like clubs.
One note of caution: felt is not washable.
If it gets dirty, try gently tapping or wiping it clean.
skirt
Oni pants are a classic, but if you find it boring to be the same as everyone else, we recommend an oni skirt! You can go with a simple wrap-around style like a tummy warmer, or try a cute arrangement that looks like a proper skirt.
If you’re good at knitting, why not create your own favorite design? For those who aren’t very handy or don’t have much time, an easy option is to stick construction paper onto a store-bought tummy warmer or skirt to make the iconic tiger-stripe pattern.
Give whichever you like a try!
smooth knit
Using smooth knit fabric to make oni pants is also a classic method.
Smooth knit is a type of knit fabric that has excellent stretch.
It also features high absorbency and moisture retention.
That makes it reassuring even if children sweat.
Since it feels good on the skin, it could be used as pajamas even after Setsubun is over.
However, smooth knit has the drawback of attracting dust and other debris easily, so be mindful of that.
Tiger
Speaking of oni for Setsubun, their signature look is the striped underwear.
In particular, the tiger pattern—black lines on a yellow background—is the classic for oni pants.
So it could be fun to go bold and incorporate a design that really highlights a tiger motif! You could add a tail for a twist, or attach whisker decorations…
Just thinking about it brings up all kinds of ideas.
One especially easy method is to wear yellow on top and bottom and then stick black tape over it—give it a try!
pink
When it comes to oni pants, designs are often yellow or orange, right? So how about making oni pants using an intentionally unusual pink? Pastel pink and other soft shades are especially recommended if a girl will be wearing them.
If making them from scratch feels like too much work, you can easily create a cute arrangement by cutting part of an old pink T-shirt, sewing it into a tube like a tummy warmer, and simply slipping it on.
It’s also super cute if mom wears the same color for a matching look!
