Take a look at the picture book!
I’d like to introduce a picture book that uses trick silhouette quizzes. Judging by the silhouette, it must be that animal… or so you think—until you turn to the answer page and find a shape that’s different from what you imagined. Kids will burst into laughter at the trick questions. It’s a quiz that makes you excited to see what comes next.
I wonder what kind of vegetables they are?

Let’s learn the names and shapes of vegetables and fruits! Here are some ideas for “What’s this veggie?” We often see vegetables and fruits after they’ve been cooked, but how about learning their names and shapes through a quiz? This is a fun idea even for infant classes, so it’s highly recommended! At first, say the silhouette and the name together out loud.
Once they get used to it, raise the difficulty by pairing the silhouette with the first letter, etc.
This makes it easier for children to get familiar with them.
Be sure to try incorporating it into your activities!

Since it looks like it has a mane, you might be tempted to answer “a lion.” But the correct answer is a dog wearing a necklace. It’s the kind of question that might make people exclaim, “What!?” However, if you tell the kids from the start that it’s a trick question, they’ll probably accept it.
What sea creature could it be?

If you know the names, let me know! I’ll share some ideas for “What sea creature could it be?” When you think of sea creatures, what comes to mind? There are all kinds, like sharks, squid, hermit crabs, and pufferfish.
If you ask children, I think you’ll hear an even wider variety of names.
Can they identify these sea creatures just from their silhouettes? When unfamiliar sea creatures appear, it’s likely to spark children’s curiosity and spirit of inquiry! Be sure to give it a try.

If you flip the silhouette of a bunch of grapes, it can look like a tree or even broccoli. Give good hints and let the children guess the answer. If the teacher pretends to be stumped too, it’ll make it easier for the kids to respond. Have fun together and make it lively!
