[Childcare] Summer wall decoration ideas: fun summer crafts and activities (1–10)
Yo-yo fishing
How about creating a wall decoration that shows the classic yo-yo fishing game often seen at summer festivals? After cutting construction paper or origami into yo-yo shapes, it would be nice to let the children draw their own patterns freely.
When lots of yo-yos are lined up on the wall, you’ll have a vibrant display that looks just like a real yo-yo fishing stall.
Try adding drawings of children enjoying the yo-yo fishing, too.
It’s also a great idea to include a few three-dimensional balloons made from origami or similar paper as part of the wall decoration.
T-shirt
Why not make some vibrant, summery T-shirts? If you turn it into an activity where you draw with colored ice, you can enjoy it together with children! First, cut white construction paper into the shape of a T-shirt.
Next, use colored ice to draw freely.
Using a variety of colors—red, blue, yellow, green, and more—will make for fun, expressive artwork.
Once you’ve finished drawing, let it dry.
When displaying them, we recommend hanging them on a string with clothespins to create a nice atmosphere.
You’ll end up with a lovely wall display that looks like laundry sparkling against the summer sky.
ghost
Cute ghost motifs are sure to delight the children! Be sure to incorporate them into your wall decorations.
If you make the ghost’s body with white felt, you can create a fluffy, ghost-like feel.
Keep the facial expressions humorous so the kids won’t be scared and will look at the display with affection.
It’s also nice to pair them with summery motifs like straw hats.
This idea can even be used as an introduction for schools or daycare centers that hold summer cooling festivals.
Let’s enjoy summer together with cheerful little ghosts!
sunflower
Here’s an idea for woven sunflowers using construction paper.
Children in the 5-year-old class who are interested can focus and work on it.
By weaving thinly cut strips of construction paper in an alternating pattern, you can vividly represent the sunflower’s seed area.
To decorate an entire wall, having lots of sunflower blooms helps create the right atmosphere.
Encourage the children to steadily make them during breaks between class activities or nap time.
A wall filled with blooming sunflowers will brighten up the feel of the preschool.
Beetle collecting
Let’s make a rhinoceros beetle using a paper cup and create a beetle-collecting scene.
First, cut the paper cup in half vertically.
Next, paint the cut paper cup in beetle colors.
It might look a bit plain with just brown or black, so feel free to use other colors too.
Use the unused half of the paper cup to make the beetle’s horn.
Attach the horn and eyes to the body, and your cute rhinoceros beetle is complete! It would also be nice to paste it together with motifs of children or animals collecting insects.
flip-flops
Footprints are perfect for creating a flip-flop motif! You’ll end up with a lovely wall display that evokes the summer seaside.
After taking prints of both feet on construction paper, let the paint dry, then glue on construction paper strips to represent the flip-flop straps.
If you cut the construction paper slightly larger than the footprints, you’ll have adorable footprints turned into cute flip-flops! For the background, try painting freely with paints or making a torn-paper collage—find ways to make the flip-flop motif stand out.
Enjoy creating the wall display together with the children.
Tanabata
Tanabata, when Orihime and Hikoboshi meet, features stars and colorful decorations that are delightful to the eye and make for a popular wall display among children of all ages.
Depending on your facility’s circumstances, putting up real bamboo for Tanabata might be difficult.
Creating a semi-3D wall display lets you showcase bamboo without taking up space.
Use vinyl or masking tape suited to your wall surface to represent and attach the bamboo, then decorate it with Tanabata ornaments on top.
You’ll have a wonderful wall display that even little children can’t help reaching out to touch!
