Cool when sung by men! Popular and hit songs by female artists
“Songs by female artists are hard to sing…” You hear that a lot, but that’s not necessarily true!
The reason female songs can feel difficult is the difference in vocal range between men and women.
In other words, as long as you adjust the key, you can sing songs by female artists just fine.
That said, women often have a wider range than men, so in that sense, male singers may find female artists’ songs a bit harder to sing.
So this time, we’ve picked out female-artist tracks that are especially cool in style and easy for men to sing.
We also touch on some professional vocal knowledge and techniques, so be sure to check it out!

Last SmileLOVE PSYCHEDELICO

LOVE PSYCHEDELICO is a rock duo that represents Japan, and they’re extremely popular in the rock scene.
They’ve produced many classic songs, but the one I especially recommend as easy for men to sing is Last Smile.
It features a musical style that blends folk rock and alternative rock, and it maintains a downbeat mood throughout.
Naturally, the vocal range stays on the lower side to match that atmosphere, making it very approachable for men who find high notes difficult.
If you’re concerned about English pronunciation, try focusing on liaison—linking the consonant at the end of one word to the vowel at the beginning of the next.
moonlightOnitsuka Chihiro

Known as one of Chihiro Onitsuka’s signature songs, this track has garnered support as a work that resonates with people who carry loneliness and despair.
Released in March 2001, it was also used as the theme song for the TV drama TRICK, and its mysterious atmosphere combined with Onitsuka’s overwhelming vocal performance made it a major hit.
The vocal range is not particularly wide and the slow tempo makes it easy to sing, but for male singers, it’s recommended to adjust the key to a comfortable range.
Neon Sign StompEGO-WRAPPIN’

A powerhouse unit, EGO-WRAPPIN’.
They have a strong following among hardcore music fans and have produced numerous classics.
Among their songs, the one I especially recommend to men is Neon Sign Stomp.
It features a dark, jazzy melody reminiscent of early Showa-era Japan, with a deeply cool, melancholic vibe throughout.
In the original, the chorus comes in with falsetto, but for male singers, singing it in chest voice works perfectly well.
Discord-discoTomei

She gained nationwide popularity after performing the theme song for the film Suzume.
If you only know her work from that time, you might think of her as a singer who delivers beautiful melodies with a clear, pretty voice—but the real her is different.
She has many exceptionally cool tracks, and among them, Discord-disco is one I especially recommend to male singers.
Wrapped in a neo-jazz flavor with a gothic atmosphere, this piece is particularly suited to men with a robust low register.
Incorporate whisper vocals effectively and try singing it with a dark, brooding tone.
Seasoniri

iri is a female singer-songwriter drawing attention in the Japanese R&B scene.
She has released many smooth R&B tracks, and what truly underpins her flowing musicality is, above all, the resonance in the lower register.
She’s known for having a relatively low voice for a female vocalist, which makes her songs quite singable for men.
Among her tracks, Season is especially recommended.
If you find the falsetto part at the end of the chorus challenging, try singing the lower harmony line instead.
Overall, it’s a very easy song to sing, with a narrow range centered on the lower notes.

My landscapeBiSH

The legendary idol group, BiSH.
They’re an idol group with an unprecedented, outrageous persona, and music that, while unmistakably idol-like, still conveys a certain coolness and depth.
Among their works, the one I especially recommend to men is “My landscape.” The vocal range is somewhat wide, but since Aina The End, who handles the main vocals, sings in a more masculine style, you can mitigate the challenge of the wide range by roughening your delivery to match the original.
In particular, for the scream right before the final chorus, try singing it not like a stylized shout, but as if you’re crying out from the heart.
PassionUA

A quintessential hit of the ’90s, “Jounetsu.” It goes without saying that it’s one of UA’s signature songs.
Although there are many covers by female singers, it’s also very easy for men to sing.
Because it incorporates a lot of Black music elements, Japanese listeners may find the rhythm a bit tricky to grasp.
However, since there aren’t many high notes and it pairs well with a robust, shouted male vocal, it can be considered a male-friendly song overall.
If you find the C melody hard to pitch, try listening to a live version.
Watching UA deliberately drift off pitch and add her own arrangements might give you some helpful clues.
