Aim for a high score! Karaoke songs for men to achieve top scores
If you’re simply aiming for a high score at karaoke, the key points for song selection will naturally be to choose songs with “easy-to-sing melodies,” “easy-to-understand lyrics,” and “clear, straightforward rhythms.”
That being the case, your picks will tend to come from the ’90s and earlier—so-called Showa-era and early Heisei kayōkyoku, new music, and J-pop.
Many recent songs have complex melodies and rhythms, and plenty of people think “This is hard!” after just one listen.
In this article, aimed at men who want to score high at karaoke, I’ve also proactively selected relatively singable tracks even from among more recent songs.
Compared to older hits, these are a bit more challenging to sing, but each song’s write-up includes tips and points to watch for to help you boost your score, so please use this as a guide and give them a try!

AyayaMONGOL800×WANIMA

A collaboration song by MONGOL800 and WANIMA, released on June 22, 2022.
It’s basically a very upbeat, high-energy rock track, but what’s interesting is that in the middle the tempo and rhythm suddenly change and it takes on a bit of a festival vibe.
The vocal melody stays refreshingly straightforward throughout the whole song.
It’s an easy pick for karaoke and I think anyone can aim for a high score.
It’s such a fun song that, honestly, rather than worrying about your score, the best way to enjoy it is to belt it out at the top of your lungs.
gradationSUPER BEAVER

A grand rock tune that captures the subtleties of human relationships.
Released in April 2023 as the theme song for the film Tokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween -Fate-.
Its straightforward melody and powerful vocals leave a strong impression, and it’s relatively easy to sing at karaoke.
However, be mindful of the key change in the chorus.
The sweeping string arrangement is another highlight.
By expressing emotional highs and lows as you sing, you can draw out even more of the song’s appeal.
Understanding the lyrics and singing with heart will create a performance that truly resonates with listeners.
Start OverTHE BEAT GARDEN

This is the seventh digital-only single by the three-member male group THE BEAT GARDEN, released in August 2022.
It was featured as an insert song in the TV Asahi Thursday drama “Roppongi Class,” and it’s a Japanese cover of Gaho’s “START,” the main theme song of the original Korean drama “Itaewon Class,” on which the Japanese series is based.
The melody is simple and easy to hum, and the tempo makes it very singable and easy to groove to, so it’s perfect material when you want to aim for a high karaoke score.
Just be careful not to strain your throat on the slightly higher notes that appear in the chorus.
Around the time the canaries sangWANDS

This is WANDS’ 18th single, released on June 9, 2021.
It’s a mid-tempo, easy-to-sing track with a vocal melody that isn’t too difficult, making it a great choice for confident singers to select at karaoke and aim for a high score.
As is typical of WANDS songs, not just this one, the chorus melody is very catchy and easy to remember—another strong selling point.
The last part of the chorus goes a bit higher, so if high notes aren’t your strength, be mindful of the key settings at karaoke.
glareWANIMA

This is WANIMA’s eighth digital-only single, released on April 14, 2022.
It was put out as a double A-side single together with the coupling track “Ano Hi, Ano Basho,” and the song being introduced here, “Banko,” also serves as the theme song for the Fuji TV Wednesday drama “Nanba MG5.” It’s an up-tempo, very straightforward rock number that makes you feel good just by listening—a refreshing track.
Because of that, the vocal melody is also very simple and clear! It should be very easy to remember and sing as a karaoke pick.
There are many fast-paced sections, so be careful not to fall behind the beat!
Velvet Poemback number

This is back number’s fifth digital single released exclusively online, out in August 2022.
It was chosen as the theme song for the film “Akira and Akira.” The slightly bittersweet, mid-tempo feel is very striking, and it’s a really good track.
The vocal melody itself is relatively simple, and the rhythm is straightforward, so I think it’s easy to aim for a high karaoke score.
There are parts in the chorus that require slightly higher notes, but since the melody isn’t very complex, if high notes are tough for you, try lowering the key and give it a shot.

It’s love, right?wacci

This is the 21st digital-only single by the Japanese pop-rock band wacci, released in April 2022.
It was written specifically as an insert song for Fuji TV’s Thursday drama series “A Chronicle of the Aristocratic Family” (Yangotonaki Ichizoku) and was reportedly released for streaming the day after the drama’s first broadcast.
Incidentally, it won an Excellence Award at the 64th Japan Record Awards.
The song has a relaxed, medium tempo, and the vocal melody doesn’t span a very wide range, so it should be easy for anyone to sing and makes it easier to aim for a high score.
The rhythm has a slight bounce to it, so be careful not to let it become too flat.
