Karaoke songs where even men with low voices can aim for high scores
In recent years, Japanese pop music tends to have far more dramatic pitch jumps compared to a decade or two ago.
It’s now commonplace for a string of low parts to be suddenly interrupted by a sharp falsetto.

This time, we’ve picked out Japanese songs that are easier to score well on in karaoke, specifically for men with low voices, spanning multiple generations.

peanut butterAratani Shota

Shota Araya is a singer-songwriter whose originality-rich musical style—mixing Black music with contemporary J-POP—has earned him widespread popularity.
While he drew attention as the former vocalist of a popular band, his activities have prioritized music over popularity, and he has produced several notable songs.
Among his tracks, the one I especially recommend for men with lower voices is Peanut Butter.
Although it has an R&B vibe, the vocal line is fairly steady and understated, and the song is arranged throughout in the low to low-mid range.

deskissthe molars’

The band “the Molars,” beloved by hardcore music nerds for their straightforward rock, centers on classic Japanese punk.
They’re marked by unadorned lyrics and direct, no-frills vocals—stylistically, you might call them the Reiwa-era Blue Hearts.
Among their tracks, the one I especially recommend is Desu-Kiss.
While the chorus features some falsetto, the overall range sits in the low-to-mid register, so most men with an average vocal range should be able to sing it in the original key without any trouble.
So, I got sunburned.Sasagawa Mao

Mao Sasagawa is a singer-songwriter recognized by Tatsuya Kitani.
She originally worked as a Vocaloid producer under the name “mao sasagawa” and is known for her strong composition skills.
Among her songs, the one I especially recommend is “Desukara, Yakemashita” (“Therefore, It Burned”).
While it’s a distinctive track, its vocal range is very narrow and the vocal line is gently contoured, making it an ideal choice if you’re aiming for a high score.
On a boring nightgarari

Singer-songwriter Garari has been steadily gaining momentum since his debut.
He’s known for drastically changing his musical style from song to song and has produced numerous classics.
Among his works, the one I especially recommend is “On a Boring Night.” Its musicality is somewhat close to Sakanaction, featuring a smooth, low-dynamic vocal line.
There’s a slight rise in voltage during the rap part in the middle, but otherwise the vocals remain very uniform—making it perfect if you’re aiming for a perfect score.
A bouquet for boring daysLUCKY TAPES

LUCKY TAPES is the solo project of Kai Takahashi, known for an impressive sound that blends elements of indie pop and R&B into J-pop.
Their soft, delicate tone is a hallmark, and they’ve been steadily gaining attention lately.
Among LUCKY TAPES’ songs, the one I especially recommend is “Bouquet for Boring Days.” It’s not exactly a low-pitched song, but the overall range is narrow and the melodic movement is gentle, so if you set it to the right key, even men with lower voices can sing it without any trouble.
Song of Greensoshina

In addition to his work as a comedian, Soshina is also active as a YouTuber and an artist.
He releases music consistently and has a few hits to his name.
Among his songs, the one I particularly recommend is Midori no Uta (The Green Song).
It’s a punk rock-based track sung entirely in a gravelly voice.
Despite its intensity, it actually has a fairly narrow vocal range, with most of the singing in the low to low-mid register.
It’s an ideal song for showcasing the richness of a man with a low voice.
Lights Out feat. Jeremy QuartusNulbarich

Nulbarich is a band that attracts hardcore music aficionados with their sophisticated sound.
Their signature is a languid style that blends R&B and neo-soul–inflected Black music, and “Lights Out feat.
Jeremy Quartus” is a track that truly embodies the essence of Nulbarich.
With its slow tempo and vocals delivered consistently in the low-mid to low range, it’s an ideal piece for showcasing the depth and richness of a low male voice.
Definitely consider adding it to your repertoire.
