Magic tricks that liven up group dates: attention-grabbing tricks (11–20)
A mask floating in the air

In recent years, we’ve had more chances to wear and carry masks, right? So I’d like to show you a magic trick using a mask.
All you need is one mask, a thin, nearly transparent thread, and some cellophane tape.
First, as preparation, tape one end of the thread to a wall and the other end near your face.
That way, the thread will be stretched from the wall to your face.
Next, slightly fold the mask and hook it onto the thread.
It will look as if the mask is floating.
If you don’t have a mask, you can substitute a banknote or something similar.
Resurrecting Banknote

This is a magic trick where you cut an envelope containing a bill with scissors and then restore the cut bill.
Because you show the moment the bill is cut and let the audience see the cut bill, they’ll be on the edge of their seats! It’s a surefire trick to get the crowd excited.
Floating banknotes

It’s a magic trick where you fold a bill into thirds lengthwise, borrow someone’s two index fingers and place the bill on top of them, then remove one index finger and the bill still appears to float.
The secret is to palm a 100-yen coin in one hand and slip it into the bill as you fold it, using it as a weight.
Since the bill is borrowed from someone, you can claim there are no gimmicks involved!
Have the other person guess the card

This is a card trick using playing cards where the spectator ends up selecting the same card they initially chose and discovers it themselves.
Usually, the magician is the one who says, “This is your card,” and reveals it.
In this trick, however, the card that remains in the spectator’s hands turns out to be the one they first selected.
It’s a highly recommended trick that’s sure to amaze both the audience and the participant.
A simple number-guessing magic trick you can do with a 3×3 grid!

This is a prediction magic trick where anyone can easily guess the final number.
The trick uses a whiteboard with a 3×3 grid numbered 1–8 and some magnets.
First, have a spectator choose any number.
From that number, move clockwise the number of spaces indicated by the number you landed on.
For example, if the first choice is 6, move 6 spaces; if the next number you land on is 4, move 4 spaces, and so on.
After repeating this three times, you will always end up on 8.
So you place a paper with the number 8 stuck to the back of the whiteboard and reveal that it was “predicted” from the start.
The secret is very simple: just place the even numbers—2, 4, 6, and 8—in specific positions!

First, choose a number from 1 to 9.
Then add 1 to that number and multiply by 2, then add 6 and divide by 2.
Finally, subtract the number you originally chose, and you’ll end up with 4.
It’s a magic trick where no matter which number you pick, the final result is always 4, so as long as you remember the steps, anyone can perform this prediction trick successfully.
As long as the arithmetic or mathematical expression holds, you can change the content and arrange it in different ways, so why not come up with your own version?

The answer is always 3!? A mysterious calculation

Have the audience think of a favorite number, then follow your instructions to calculate.
First, add 1 to the number they thought of.
Next, double that result and then add 4.
After that, divide by 2, and finally subtract the original number they thought of… Did the answer come out to 3? With this curious calculation, no matter what number they start with, if they follow the steps correctly, they will always end up with 3.
Since the audience likely doesn’t know it will be 3, reveal that you had predicted the number after they get their answer to amaze them.
