Guess the number written on the paper

No prep needed! I'll teach you a method to guess any freely written 4-digit number. The pinnacle of impromptu magic.
Guess the number written on the paper

Quick, impromptu magic tricks are handy to have up your sleeve.

So here’s one where you guess a number someone has written on a piece of paper.

First, prepare a palm-sized piece of paper and a pen.

Fold the paper into quarters and draw a line slightly above the center.

Ask the spectator to write any four-digit number above the line, and their name or the date below it.

Have them confirm the paper isn’t see-through, then you reveal the number.

The secret lies in how you fold the paper—when you place your fingers just right, the performer can see the number.

Create a table where adding any parts results in the selected number

Create a table where adding any parts results in the selected number

It’s a mysterious magic trick where the numbers placed in a 4×4 grid all add up to the same total in every row, column, diagonal, the four corners, the central 2×2 block, and each set of four corner cells—everything matches.

First, have the spectator name any larger two-digit number, 20 or above.

Then you start filling the 4×4 grid so that the sum across each row matches the chosen number.

It looks like you’re placing numbers at random, but in reality, three of the four numbers in each row are fixed.

The remaining one cell in the row takes a value calculated from the chosen number minus 21, adjusted by adding or subtracting as needed.

As you fill in the memorized numbers and the mentally calculated ones, the originally named number appears from all sorts of directions.

Since quick calculation is required, be sure to practice thoroughly before performing!

A prophecy of numbers using a calendar

A prophecy of numbers using a calendar

It’s a magic trick using a calendar.

First, have someone outline a 4-column by 4-row block of numbers on the calendar.

The magician then predicts the total and writes it down on a note.

Next, ask them to circle any one number and draw lines through the entire row and column of that number.

From the remaining numbers without lines, have them choose another number and do the same—circle it and draw lines through its row and column.

Repeat this two more times, and then add up the four chosen numbers.

When you open the note, the predicted total matches perfectly! The secret is that if you add the numbers on the two diagonals of the 4×4 block and then double that sum, you get the final total.

It’s a curious number trick that stays entertaining even after you reveal the method.

Guessing the numbers after tearing up the paper they were written on

A magic trick that can do almost the same things as a psychic [explanation of the secret]
Guessing the numbers after tearing up the paper they were written on

Magic that feels like psychic powers is fun, isn’t it? Here’s one I recommend: a trick where you tear up a paper with a number written on it and still guess the number.

First, have someone write a three-digit number on a sheet of paper folded into quarters.

Then fold the paper again and tear it into small pieces.

After that, you reveal the correct number.

The secret is that before tearing, you slip the paper under the table, fold it the opposite way, take it back out, and tear it while secretly looking at the number.

They’ll be left thinking, “How did they know even though it was shredded?”

A calculation magic trick where the numbers predicted in advance appear exactly as foretold

This magic trick predicts a number that equals the sum of three three-digit numbers.

First, have the spectator name any three three-digit numbers.

Right before adding them up, you make a prediction—but at this stage, the sum and your prediction won’t match.

Then, you split each of the three-digit numbers into their individual digits, form three new three-digit numbers from those digits, and add those.

Amazingly, the total now matches your prediction! The key is to take the original three numbers, break them into digits, and use the sums of corresponding digits.

If you love numbers, practice this and give it a try!

First, choose a number from 1 to 9.

Then add 1 to that number and multiply by 2, then add 6 and divide by 2.

Finally, subtract the number you originally chose, and you’ll end up with 4.

It’s a magic trick where no matter which number you pick, the final result is always 4, so as long as you remember the steps, anyone can perform this prediction trick successfully.

As long as the arithmetic or mathematical expression holds, you can change the content and arrange it in different ways, so why not come up with your own version?

First, have the audience silently think of any number from 1 to 10.

Next, ask them to double the number, then add 15, and divide the result by 2.

Finally, have them subtract the original number they first thought of.

Now all that’s left is for you to guess the result.

In fact, no matter which number they chose, the answer will be 5.
