Recommended indoor games and recreational activities for the workplace

We’re introducing recommended indoor games and recreational activities you can enjoy at the office!

Good communication with your coworkers is essential to keeping work running smoothly.

But with everyone so busy, many people end up “only talking about work,” don’t they?

If you feel like it’s hard to ask for help or there’s no one you can consult with, we recommend trying some recreational games.

These days, opportunities like icebreakers—aimed at building rapport with those around you—are becoming more common.

By playing together and sharing enjoyable moments, conversations will naturally increase, and your work may become easier too!

Speedy Pencil Holder Game

Speedy Pencil Holder Game

It’s a simple game: if you can stand up all the provided pencils within the time limit, you win.

It sounds simple and easy, but new pencils are thin, long, and unstable, so even if you think one is standing, it quickly topples over—and when it falls, it can knock down the surrounding pencils too.

It doesn’t go as smoothly as you might expect.

Master of the mobile society

Master of the mobile society

Nowadays, everyone has a smartphone, and everyone uses LINE.

This is a “Mobile Society Master Game” that you play using your phone and the app.

Create a LINE group with the members who will join the game.

Then do a speed-typing race: the person who sends the designated sentence first, without a single mistake, wins.

If you make a mistake, you’re disqualified! How about a penalty like a finger flick for those who mess up or come in last?

1-minute timer

Icebreaker: “1-Minute Clock”
1-minute timer

The “One-Minute Timer” game involves starting a stopwatch and seeing if you can raise your hand exactly at the one-minute mark.

Since it’s unlikely anyone will hit exactly one minute, the person closest to it wins.

It might also be fun to give a penalty to the person who’s farthest off!

Chopstick-Using Game

Chopstick-Using Game

Prepare two plates, a pair of chopsticks, and dried beans such as azuki.

This set is for one person.

Place the beans on one plate, and at the start signal, use the chopsticks to move them one by one to the other plate.

Set a time limit, and the person who transfers the most beans within the time wins.

It’s a game that favors people who are good with chopsticks, but picking up small items is pretty tricky, isn’t it?

Stocking Tug of War

Stocking Tug of War

“Stocking Tug-of-War” uses two pairs of stockings tied together at the feet.

You pull the body parts over your faces, then tug against each other; whoever has theirs come off loses.

It’s not a game I’d recommend for women (lol).

Your face ends up looking ridiculous, so it’s absolutely hilarious to watch and really gets the crowd going!

Tasting Game

Tasting Game

One game that often appears on TV shows is the “tasting game.” Players blindfold themselves, pinch their noses, and try to guess what they’re eating.

Because you’re judging only by texture and taste, it’s surprisingly hard to get it right.

Be careful not to get upset if you miss even with foods you love.

It’s guaranteed to liven up a drinking party or group meal, and doing it at lunchtime can make for a friendly, relaxed break.

Another plus is that it requires almost no preparation and can be done anytime.

Let’s Guess Exactly! Game

Let's Guess Exactly! Game

This is the “Guess the Exact Weight” game where you predict the weight using only your sense of touch.

Put some candies at random into an empty box, hold it with both hands, and estimate its weight.

It’s quite difficult to hit the exact number without being off by even a gram, but the person whose guess is closest—whether under or over—wins.

If you offer a luxurious prize to anyone who hits the exact weight, it’ll be even more exciting!
