[Simple Games] Recommended Indoor Recreational Activities for Adults
When a large group gathers indoors and you think, “Let’s do something fun!”, do you ever find yourselves surprisingly stuck for ideas? In this article, we introduce simple games that are perfect for getting everyone excited, including team battles and cooperative play.
From games that require almost no props to ones you can play easily with everyday items, we’ve gathered activities ideal for indoor recreation.
Games that you progress through by cooperating naturally spark conversation and deepen relationships! There are also slightly brain-teasing games that adults will especially enjoy, so be sure to give them a try together.
Team-based/Co-op Games (1–10)
Gesture game where your partner doesn’t get it

This is a “gesture game” played in pairs.
In a typical gesture game, one representative expresses the prompt using only body movements, and the other participants try to guess it.
In this version, however, there are two people doing the gestures.
Only one of them knows the prompt; the other does not.
The prompt is provided by the opposing team, and the person who has to guess what the gestures represent is actually the gesturer who doesn’t know the prompt.
What makes this game fun is that the person who doesn’t know the prompt still has to sync with their partner to complete the gesture.
From the perspective of the opposing team, watching the bewildered guesser can be hilariously entertaining!
Grandma Telephone Game

I think many people played the telephone game when they were kids.
With a small twist, we’ve turned that telephone game into something adults can enjoy too: the “Granny Telephone Game.” The rules are almost the same as the regular version, but there’s one extra rule: you’re not allowed to show your teeth.
That means laughing is out, and to avoid showing your teeth, you end up talking like a granny.
Gesture Game

If you want to liven things up indoors, charades is a great choice.
Everyone gets moving and communicates using observation and imagination, which builds a stronger sense of closeness.
It’s easy to start, requires virtually no props, and can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere.
The challenge of conveying all kinds of information without words sparks players’ creativity.
It’s perfect for office celebrations, parties, or family time, and works well with both large and small groups.
Among communication games, charades is especially universal and is sure to be a hit no matter the time or place.
Rock-Paper-Scissors Relay

Here’s an idea for a cooperative indoor game that adults can genuinely get excited about: “Rock-Paper-Scissors Relay.” Divide into two teams and use a ring made from newspaper as the baton.
Each round starts with the first and second person in each team playing rock-paper-scissors.
The winner passes the baton to the next teammate, and the next match begins.
The fun twist is that if you lose, you can keep challenging until you win.
The team whose baton makes a full round trip first, ahead of the other team, wins.
All you need is newspaper, and the rules are simple, yet the game gets really intense.
It’s perfect for company socials, neighborhood gatherings, and any event where you want to build camaraderie.
Reverse Playback Telephone Game

This is a game where you record a prompt on your smartphone and play it in reverse, then pass along words that could sound like either Japanese or a foreign language.
The first player records the reversed prompt, and the next player imitates it exactly and records that.
After that, without doing any more reverse playback, you keep passing it along until the last person.
At the end, you reverse the final recorded audio and try to guess what the original phrase was.
Even the shortest prompt becomes tricky just because of the “reverse playback” rule.
It’s a strangely smile-inducing, fun game.
Ping-Pong Great Escape

This is a game you can play even in a small space with just newspaper, packing tape, and a ping-pong ball.
Make a tall tower out of newspaper, place a ping-pong ball on the very top, and if it doesn’t fall for five seconds, you succeed.
You get five sheets of newspaper—build a well-balanced tower that’s taller than anyone else’s.
Not only height but stability is crucial.
If you have a large group, try playing in teams and cooperating.
It’s a perfect game for boosting teamwork.
Find a partner

A game where you look for the person who has the word that pairs with yours: “Find Your Partner.” Be sure to have an even number of players.
First, prepare separate cards with pairs of related words, like “dog” and “cat” or “morning” and “night.” Each participant receives one card without looking at it and sticks it on their back or forehead.
By looking at other people’s cards and giving each other hints, players try to find the person whose word pairs with their own.
The player who finds their match the fastest and forms a pair wins! The person left without a partner at the end loses.
