RADWIMPS' classic and popular songs

Let me introduce some songs by RADWIMPS, a rock band that represents the “Rockin’ On” scene.

Their lyrics are literary with a unique worldview, and their straightforward, catchy tunes—classic J-rock without quirks—are incredibly appealing.

The guitarist-vocalist Yojiro Noda grew up abroad, while the other members studied at music vocational schools or conservatories, making their English-language lyrics and high level of musicianship part of their charm as well.

If you were born in the early ’90s, chances are many of the songs you listened to in high school are included in this playlist.

Give it a listen and let it take you back to your youth.

These are English lyrics.

The rhyming-rich words by vocalist Yojiro Noda, and the skill with which he delivers them, truly shine when the lyrics are in English.

What exactly does “We should’ve gone to Hollywood and told Eddie Murphy, ‘Come on, entertain us’” mean…? It feels like one of RADWIMPS’ most puzzling sets of lyrics.

It’s said that Noda wrote this song about the “darker” version of himself at the time he made it.

People say it’s a song that sings of loneliness, hardship, pain, and weakness.

You might not feel that from the rhythm or melody, but if you listen closely to the lyrics, it gains even more depth.

A RADWIMPS song that evokes an otherworldly sound and a mysterious atmosphere.

It’s included on the album “Altcolony no Teiri,” released in March 2009.

The lyrics, which portray the confusion and emotional turbulence that arise through encounters with others, are striking, conveying a depth of feeling that words alone can’t fully express.

Although it hadn’t been performed live for about 11 years, it delighted fans when it was played again at the 2020 “RADWIMPS 15th Anniversary Concert.” It’s a song I recommend to anyone struggling with love or relationships.

Showcasing RADWIMPS’s delicate sensibility, it’s a moving track that resonates with the heart.

This is a RADWIMPS song that depicts dreams, hope, and setbacks.

Released in March 2013 as their 15th single, it reached No.

1 on the radio airplay chart “Hot Top Airplay.” Yojiro Noda’s emotionally rich vocals and distinctive word choices leave a strong impression.

It carries a message of encouragement for young people chasing their dreams, while also portraying the struggle between self-expression and self-evaluation.

Emphasizing the importance of continuing to take on challenges, this work is sure to gently nudge those striving toward new goals or on the verge of giving up on their dreams.

It’s an incredibly fast-paced, rock-style song.

From the title “Live Broadcast,” I wondered what would jump out, and then it opens with, “Your commentator is me, the Buddha.” The lyrics go on as if narrating someone on the brink of suicide.

As for what happens in the end, please find out for yourself.

It’s an English-language song that straightforwardly sings, “I want you.” It’s a track filled with Mr.

Noda’s desire to create a beautiful song no matter where you start listening from.

I felt that listening to it as an adult gives the music a distinctly different flavor.

hyperventilationRADWIMPS

A hidden gem featured as a B-side to RADWIMPS’s single “Keitai Denwa,” known for its technical guitar work and the cool flow of English and Japanese lyrics.

The vocal melody, which feels like it might tip into hyperventilation, overbreathing, could become seriously addictive.
