RADWIMPS' classic and popular songs

Let me introduce some songs by RADWIMPS, a rock band that represents the “Rockin’ On” scene.

Their lyrics are literary with a unique worldview, and their straightforward, catchy tunes—classic J-rock without quirks—are incredibly appealing.

The guitarist-vocalist Yojiro Noda grew up abroad, while the other members studied at music vocational schools or conservatories, making their English-language lyrics and high level of musicianship part of their charm as well.

If you were born in the early ’90s, chances are many of the songs you listened to in high school are included in this playlist.

Give it a listen and let it take you back to your youth.

This is a song that expresses its feelings straightforwardly.

For me, the lyrics are so deep that they’ve always been hard to fully understand.

Noda’s beautiful voice rides on an up-tempo rhythm, making it a very pleasant track.

It’s the kind of music I want to listen to regularly.

RADWIMPS is a four-piece rock band whose wide-ranging musicality—from addictive rock sounds to film scores that closely serve each work—has earned high acclaim.

Their 14th digital-only single, “Daidan’en feat.

ZORN,” featuring hip-hop MC ZORN, was created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the J.League’s launch.

Built around a hook-laden melody and cool rap, the ensemble colors the storied history of the J.League, which has given rise to so many dramas.

It’s an emotional rock tune whose weighty arrangement lifts your spirits.

This is their third CD from their indie days.

According to Noda, the major themes are “life” and “death.” When you’re alive, there are many things you don’t need to know and many things you discover for the first time.

He says that experiencing something for the first time has tremendous value as a living human being.

Among RADWIMPS’ many hits packed with broad, instantly memorable phrases, the song I recommend as an easy one to sing is Kanata Haruka.

This track is arranged in a classic J-pop style.

While it runs a bit longer than the average song, it doesn’t require belting, making it a great pick for karaoke and the like.

While rooted in an authentic rock sound, this RADWIMPS song creates a sense of fun with its catchy vocals and has captivated many elementary school students.

It’s easy to sing, light on its feet, and crafted as a crowd-pleasing, feel-good track.

PicnicRADWIMPS

It was released in 2015 as RADWIMPS’s 17th single.

The song was written at the request of Daishi Matsunaga, the director of the film Pietà in the Toilet, which stars vocalist and guitarist Yojiro Noda, and it was used as the movie’s theme song.

The band enjoys immense popularity among high school students.

Clearing SkyRADWIMPS

This is a beautifully transparent, luminous piece composed as part of the score for Makoto Shinkai’s animated film Weathering with You.

The work portrays hope and renewal beyond sorrow, enveloping you in a sense of clarity—like the sky after rain.

On TikTok, it has resonated widely, with over 100,000 videos pairing the track with travel scenes and moving moments from everyday life.

Included on the album Weathering with You, released in July 2019, the soundtrack featuring this piece won Best Music at the 43rd Japan Academy Film Prize.

When you’re troubled and find yourself at a standstill, it’s sure to reset your heart and give you the courage to take a step forward.
