Robert Schumann Popular Song Rankings [2026] (81–90)
Beloved May,Robert Schumann85rank/position

Renowned for its many soothing pieces, Robert Schumann’s masterpiece Album for the Young remains beloved.
Even those unfamiliar with classical music may find some of its pieces surprisingly familiar.
Among them, my top recommendation is “Beloved May.” As the title suggests, it depicts the month of May, so compared with the more dazzling spring classics themed around April, it leaves a somewhat gentler impression.
It’s a perfect piece for those who want to relax with classical music over a morning coffee in spring.
Morning SongRobert Schumann86rank/position

A collection of five piano solo pieces composed in 1853, also known as Songs of Dawn.
Written three years before Schumann’s death, it is among his final works.
By this time, Schumann was already suffering from mental illness, making the compositional process obscure.
His wife, Clara, also wrote in her diary that “the sound of this piece is exceedingly strange.”
Scene of the ForestRobert Schumann87rank/position

A collection of nine solo piano pieces.
It was composed under the inspiration of the German poet Heinrich Laube’s poetry collection The Hunting Diary.
At the time, each piece was accompanied by one of Laube’s poems, but from the fourth piece onward they were omitted upon publication.
Throughout the work, various scenes of the forest are depicted.
Forest Scenes, Op. 82-3: “Lonely Flower”Robert Schumann88rank/position

The third piece, “Lonely Flower,” from the piano miniatures Scenes from the Forest, lets you feel as if you’re moving through a quiet forest while listening.
It is also translated as “Solitary Flower,” and while the title suggests poignancy and melancholy, the piece itself conveys a gentle, warm atmosphere.
Perhaps that little flower was quietly waiting in the forest for someone to find it.
By using the pedal to smoothly connect the tones as you play, you can bring out the piece’s soothing quality.
If you enjoy pieces with a relaxed mood, why not give it a try?
Paradise and PellyRobert Schumann89rank/position

This is an oratorio by the German composer Robert Schumann, famous for “Träumerei.” While oratorios often take Christian themes, this one is set in the Persian world.
Its story follows a child of the Peri tribe, who, having been cast out of paradise for sin, seeks an offering that will allow reentry into paradise.
The premiere took place on December 4, 1843, at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, conducted by Schumann himself, and it was a great success.
Felix Mendelssohn, a contemporary composer, also sent Schumann words of praise for this work.
Song: A Woman’s Love and LifeRobert Schumann90rank/position

A song cycle composed by Schumann in 1840.
This eight-song work traces a journey from meeting a beloved, to marriage, and finally to bereavement.
It is said to be rooted in Schumann’s own romantic experiences with Clara, and it shines with richly poetic musical expression.
The piano accompaniment plays an equal role to the voice, with melody and harmony uniting to delicately depict a woman’s inner feelings.
By adopting a cyclical form, the work also gains narrative cohesion.
Highly recommended for those who want to deeply feel the joys and sorrows of love and life.
It has been passed down through performances by many great singers, including Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.

Myrthen (Song Cycle)Robert Schumann91rank/position

Myrthen is the first set of songs composed by Schumann, a song cycle consisting of 26 pieces.
The texts are by various poets, including Goethe and Rückert.
The cycle was dedicated to his wife, Clara, and in 1840—the year of its composition—Schumann and Clara were married.
