RIZE’s classic and popular songs
Last updated:

RIZE is a rock band that has led Japan’s mixture rock scene since their formation in 1997.

Many people are still captivated by their one-of-a-kind mixture sensibility, each member’s exceptional expressive power, and their charismatic presence—including their looks.

Their die-hard fans are known as “Rizers.”

What makes them so compelling are, above all, their straightforward sound, a wealth of memorable guitar riffs, and their overwhelming live performances.

Calling them cool might sound cliché, but it’s the word that suits them best.

This time, we’re going to dive into the world of RIZE!

We researched their past hits and classic tracks and carefully curated a selection.

RIZE's classic and popular songs (1–10)

Pink SpiderRIZE

This is the title track of the single Pink Spider, released in 2006 after KenKen—Nobuaki Kaneko’s younger brother—officially joined the band.

It’s a bold, rough-edged cover delivered in full-on RIZE style of one of hide from X JAPAN’s signature songs.

Their respect for hide and their razor-sharp words aimed at the world truly shine.

Why I’m MeRIZE

Their second single—and the track that became the catalyst for RIZE gaining broad public recognition, reaching No.

10 on the Oricon charts.

TOKIE’s mature bassline is particularly striking.

Written by JESSE for his father, Char, and to motivate himself, this song remains a staple in their live performances.

heiwaRIZE

Included on the fifth album ALTERNA released in 2007, and released as the industry’s first digital single along with the opening track, “Kami,” this song, as its title suggests, confronts the idea of “peace” head-on.

It calls out to adults, insisting that what we should be doing for children and for future generations is far more than that, and extends a helping hand through its message.

ThunderRIZE

From the TOUR 2010 EXPERIENCE live footage, this is RIZE’s debut single and their most iconic song, packed with all of RIZE’s early raw impulse.

It’s almost always performed at the end of the main set.

In the original recording, it begins with fingerstyle bass, but in live shows after KenKen joined, the tempo is ramped up significantly and it kicks off with razor-sharp, high-speed slapping.

It’s an indispensable track at any RIZE concert.

LOVEHATERIZE

LOVEHATERIZE

This track, with full-on speed right from the intro, is “LOVEHATE,” released in 2014.

Keeping that breakneck pace, JESSE’s rap in the vocal section is a must-hear.

Add in KenKen’s slap bass and the striking guitar riffs, and the aggressively RIZE-style sound makes the song just plain cool.

It’s a staple often performed at festivals and live shows.

Please Oh PleaseRIZE

It’s a garage rock-style track with a rough vibe that’s a bit different from RIZE’s usual image.

It’s included on their sixth album, K.O., released in 2008.

The song showcases RIZE’s more melodic side.

This song tells the story from when JESSE first picked up a guitar, through his band activities, up to the present.

The lyrics feature heroes who influenced JESSE—such as HELMET, PANTERA, KORN, and Sid Vicious.

It’s a track that conveys encouragement from RIZE, who have gone from being “influenced youth” to “influencers.”
